NELSON GOES BACK TO BACK | And Marcott wins, too, our Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Players of the Week!

Nelson won his third Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Boys Player of the Week, a record, as he's setting all kinds of records this year. Nelson is headed to the state track meet in both the shot and the discus. He's joined this week by Tatum golfer Hannah Marcott (below, with her teammates). Hannah was the low scorer for the Eagles, who qualified for the Class 3A state golf tournament at ShadowGlen Golf Club on May 6-7 in Manor. This week on ETBlitz.com, we have a first.

Actually, we have a third. And a few firsts.

As in, we have our very first three-time winner of one of our awards. We have our first back-to-back winner. And we have our first-ever golfer as one of our honorees.

Braydon Nelson, the Kilgore High School senior, is like a runaway train right now, and anything in his way – well, it better get moved, or it’s getting ran over.

Nelson qualified last weekend at the Region III meet in Bullard for the University Interscholastic League State Track & Field Championships on May 2-4. Nelson will go to the University of Texas in Austin that first weekend in May in the Class 4A boys discus – his best of his three attempts was 187 feet, 3 inches, and that’s the throw that’s sending him to Austin.

It’s also what won him a third Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Boys Player of the Week honor, for the first time a back-to-back winner, and our first-ever three-time winner of the award.

And that’s not all.

He’ll also be going to state in the 4A boys shot put, after setting a personal-best record 56 feet, 2 inches on Monday.

And technically, Braydon won our Whataburger / ETBlitz award, his third, for the week of April 15-20. But because of the track meet getting extended to Monday, he’ll be eligible for NEXT week because his feats happened on Monday of THIS week, not last!

Wow, just wow.

Our girls award-winner this week is used to winning, as well. She’s our first golfer to win our award.

Hannah Marcott (center, third from left — or right) had the lowest score on Tatum’s girls golf team, who qualified for the UIL Class 3A State Golf Tournament last week at Oak Hurst Golf Club in Bullard. Tatum will play that state tournament May 6-7 at ShadowGlen in Manor. From left: Kaysen Foster, Ava Quick, Marcott, Taydem Barker, and Elyana Hill. The team is coached by Jeremy Kubiak. Hannah Marcott has been part of Tatum High School’s girls golf team, as a senior, for quite a while. She’s been a part of three district championships, regional championships, played in so many big tournaments, and now, she and her Eagles teammates are headed to the UIL Class 3A State Golf Tournament on May 6-7 for the second straight year.

This year, that’ll be at ShadowGlen Golf Club.

To earn a trip to state, teams had to have a top-three tournament finish at their regional. In Tatum’s case, that was Oak Hurst Golf Course in Bullard.

While all of Tatum’s girls did fairly well, their only senior, Marcott, did the best, stepping up for an 89 on the first day and a 95 on day two, helping her team, coached by Jeremy Kubiak, to get the job done.

For her performance in the regional tournament last week, Marcott is the Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Player of the Week for April 15-20.

They join the latest in a growing list of excellent performances by athletes in the ETBlitz coverage area. Here are the list of Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Players of the Week to date:

Whataburger is the choice – as has been mentioned on ETBlitz.com a few times – of the ETBlitz.com crew when we’re on the road, and, well, when we’re home, for that matter.

You can access their full menu, breakfast, lunch or dinner, right here: Whataburger | Order Online with Curbside and Delivery.

And you know that feeling – if you’re coming back from a game, or it’s late at night and you pull into a restaurant and the chairs are on the tables. You know that feeling.

YOU WILL NEVER GET THAT FEELING AT A WHATABURGER BECAUSE THEY NEVER, EVER CLOSE.

EVER.

You get that same double-meat Whataburger with a chocolate shake and upsize fries and spicy ketchup no matter where you’re at or what time of day. Or if it’s after 11 p.m., before 11 a.m., maybe it’s breakfast. They’ve got it.

You’ll never hear, “I’m sorry, we’re closed.”

Now, congratulations to Braydon – we might be saying that again after the state track meet. Heck, who knows, we might be saying it again next week! Congratulations to Hannah, as well, and to Tatum’s girls golf team for making the 3A state tournament and here’s hoping they’re bringing home the trophy.
