SOFTBALL

Troup hires former Gladewater,

ULM, LU standout Williams as new coach

Troup High School has a new softball coach, and it’s former Gladewater High School, Louisiana-Monroe and LeTourneau University player Murphy Williams.

The news was broken earlier this week by a good friend of the ETBlitz.com site, Jay Neal, sports editor at the Jacksonville Progress.

Coach Williams fills the vacancy left when Sam Weeks departed Troup for Tyler Legacy recently.

Williams just finished up her college career at LeTourneau – she was a pitcher, and won 13 of her 21 starts. She played her first three seasons at Louisiana-Monroe.

She’s the granddaughter of legendary Gladewater football coach Jack V. Murphy, for whom the stadium there in Gladewater is named.
