BULLDOGS DOMINATE ALL-DISTRICT | Sabine’s Kirkindoll, Cardinals take honors, as well

A trip to the state semifinals, a region championship, yet another district championship, and – oh, yeah – a senior class who led the Kilgore High School Bulldogs to 100 wins under their watch.

Will that win a few honors as a part of the District 15-4A All-District team?

Um… You’d better believe it.

Senior Diego Rojas has been named the overall most valuable player; teammate Leo Yzaguirre, also a senior, was named co-utility player of the year with Brandon Salazar of Carthage; and Kilgore coach Hector Peralez, incredibly just having completed his first season, was named coach of the year.

The all-district team is voted on, as always, by the coaches in of the programs in the district.

Other superlatives: Sabine’s Luke Kirkindoll was named defensive most valuable player; Center’s Braxton Riley was named offensive MVP; Sabine’s Francisco Perez and Carthage’s Adrian Lopez were named co-midfielders of the year; Jesus Duran of Sabine was named the sophomore of the year; Center’s Danny Flores was named newcomer of the year; and Center’s Pablo Huiechapa was named goalkeeper of the year.

Kilgore won the team sportsmanship award.

First-team forwards: Kilgore’s Enrique Salazar, Henderson’s Juan Gonzalez and Center’s Edwin Rodriguez.

First-team midfielders: Kilgore’s Ruben Rodriguez, Sabine’s Randy Rodriguez, Center’s Jarad Cordova, Henderson’s Andrew Morales, Carthage’s Seth Nixon and Tenaha’s Adrian Ramirez.

First-team defenders: Kilgore’s Jobani Chavez, Henderson’s Tucker Harvey, Sabine’s Kevin Maldonado, Center’s Memo A. (apologies, how it’s listed), and Carthage’s Lalo Hernandez.

First-team keeper: Carthage’s Kooper Knighton.

Second-team forwards: Alec Gonzalez, Sabine, and Carthage’s Brayan Ixpec.

Second-team midfielders: Kilgore’s Jose Vasquez, Sabine’s Juan Ortega, Center’s Eric Martinez, Henderson’s Thomas Marquez, Tenaha’s Migael Herandez, and New Diana’s Christian Gomez.

Second-team defenders: Kilgore’s Chris Perez, Henderson’s Rafe Whiteside, Center’s Josue Raphael and Tony Arcibar, Tatum’s Christian Quinton, and New Diana’s Riley Stephens.

Second-team keeper: Kilgore’s Chris Martinez.
