KC TRYOUT COMING | Rangers to host football combine / tryout on Saturday, May 9

KC is aiming for a third conference title in a row this year, and maybe a return trip to the national playoff. Did you graduate from high school and feel like your athletic career ended before you were ready?

Got what it takes to be a part of one of the winningest junior college football programs not just in Texas, but in the nation?

Then you need to be at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium on Saturday, May 9, because Kilgore College is looking for guys just like you.

The Rangers will host one of their semi-annual tryouts that day, an NFL Combine-style tryout that begins with registration at 10 a.m., and continues until about 1 p.m.

Pre-registration is $30 for each athlete; same-day registration is $40 per.

Participants are encouraged to wear appropriate attire: something they’re comfortable in, shorts and their own cleats.

Several of the normal football evaluation drills, such as the 40-yard-dash and cone drills, will be a part of the tryout, as will a time of live, 7-on-7 play.

According to the football portion of the KC website: “The combine is designed to identify talent and provide athletes with an opportunity to compete at the collegiate level while gaining exposure to Kilgore College’s football program.”

The Rangers, led by head coach Willie Gooden, are the state’s winningest junior college football program, throughout their history. They’re two seasons removed from having won back-to-back Southwest Junior College Football Conference championships, and from reaching the NJCAA’s final four playoff. And they are regular hosts of similar tryouts, normally at least two per calendar year.

For more information on the tryout, or to pre-register, call assistant coach Tre Calahan at (318)-480-1048.
