BASEBALL PLAYOFF SERIES | Every series involving ETB-area teams

EDITOR’S NOTE: Overton’s series against Cayuga has changed. Take note below.

High school baseball teams play three-fourths of their regular season in district play, hoping to do well enough to get good seeding for the University Interscholastic League’s playoffs.

Those playoffs begin this week, and eight of the 15 programs in the ETBlitz.com coverage area will be in the field.

The high school softball playoffs began this week in Texas, and here’s what happened in the first round, as well as the schedule for round two (the area round) for the teams from the ETBlitz.com coverage area.

As the second round takes shape, in Class 4A, Carthage will meet North Lamar in a best-of-three series to be played at Pleasant Grove. In 3A, White Oak will face Atlanta in Marshall, and Arp will meet Hooks at two different sites. In 2A, Overton faces Como-Pickton at Fruitvale, and Beckville takes on McLeod at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.

When more information is available, i.e., streaming / broadcast information, ticket prices, etc., we’ll have it here. And we’ll preview these games on Tuesday.

UIL BASEBALL PLAYOFFS

Round 1 (bi-district)

CLASS 4A

Kilgore (16-12) vs. Mabank (17-14-1)

The series will be played at Grand Saline.

Game one will be Friday night at 7 p.m. Game two is set for Saturday at 2, and if a game three is necessary, it will follow 30 minutes after game two.

Pine Tree (13-11-3) vs. Lindale (23-6-1)

Game one of this series will be Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Lindale. Game two is Friday night at 7 at Pine Tree, and a game three, if needed, will be Saturday at noon in Lindale.

Carthage (15-13) vs. Van (18-15-1)

Grand Saline will host game one on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. Game two will be Friday at 7 p.m., at Tatum High School. And game three, if they need it to break the tie, will be Saturday at 4 p.m., back at Grand Saline.

CLASS 3A

Tatum (22-6) vs. Quitman (14-10-1)

This series is also moving around. Game one will be Thursday in Carthage, a 7 p.m. start. Game two is Friday night at 7 in Lindale. And game three, if they need it, will be Saturday at Brook Hill, although a time is to be determined.

White Oak (13-13-1) vs. Edgewood (20-13)

Canton will host this series. Game one is Wednesday at 7 p.m. Game two is Thursday night at 7, as well, and if a game three is necessary, it’ll be Saturday, back in Canton, at 8 p.m.

Troup (11-9) vs. Grand Saline (17-10-2)

The Tigers will face Grand Saline in Athens. Game one will be Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. Game two is Thursday at 6. And game three would be 7:30 p.m. Friday night, if they need the tiebreaker.

CLASS 2A

Overton (10-13) vs. Cayuga (20-8)

In the original format, game one was to be played Wednesday at Kilgore’s historic Driller Park, a 7 p.m. first pitch. Game two would’ve been at Cayuga on Thursday at 7. And game three was a to-be-determined situation.

Now, due to expected inclement weather, the series will be played at Fruitvale. Games one will be Thursday night at 5, then game two to follow. Game three, if needed, would be Saturday night at 7, back at Fruitvale.

Beckville (15-8) vs. La Poynor (15-12)

Bullard will host game one at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Game two will be Thursday night at Tatum, also at 7 p.m. And game three is to be determined.
