WHATABURGER/ ETBLITZ.COM PLAYERS OF THE WEEK | KC stars step up in conference games
A pair of Kilgore College athletes were chosen as the Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Players of the Week: Nyla Inmon (15, above) is the girls player of the week for her performances against Angelina and Coastal Bend last week, and Jamil Muttilib was the pick for the boys/men’s player of the week for his performances against Lee College and Angelina. One of the choices for this week’s player of the week was perfect from the free throw line and was Mr. Reliable when his teammates needed him in a conference game.
The other award-winner this week had two fantastic individual performances and in the most recent one, she helped put her team in the victory column even though she didn’t hit double figures in scoring.
This week’s Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Players of the Week, for the week of January 8-13, are Jamil Muttilib of the Kilgore College Rangers and Nyla Inmon, of KC’s Lady Rangers.
Inmon, from Tyler, wears number 15 for coach Stephanie Williams’ Lady Rangers. Inmon and her teammates opened Region XIV Conference play last Wednesday on the road at Angelina College in Lufkin.
Things were close initially, with KC leading by four (16-12) after one quarter. But Angelina went on a big run in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Rangers, 28-14, then a nightmarish fourth quarter that saw KC outscored 23-5 before they ultimately lost, 83-56.
Inmon did miss all four of her shots from three-point range, but she had 15 points, five assists, five steals, and grabbed 11 rebounds in defeat.
And on Saturday, in a home game against Coastal Bend, KC jumped out to a 30-18 lead after one and never looked back. Brykayla Hampton led the Lady Rangers with 19 points, but Inmon was a force, finishing with 12 rebounds, seven assists and two steals to go with her nine points.
So on the week for the Tyler native: 24 points, 33 rebounds, 12 assists, and seven steals, and in the Coastal Bend game, a 92-77 win, KC’s first conference win of the season.
The Lady Rangers are 8-8 overall, 1-1 in conference play, and undefeated at home. They’re at Panola College in Carthage on Wednesday, a 5:30 p.m. start, and then off Saturday before hosting Paris Junior College next Wednesday, Jan. 24.

Now, to Mr. Muttilib.
Similarly to the Lady Rangers, Jamil and his teammates suffered a road loss last Wednesday to Lee College in Baytown, 83-79, but then bounced back for a 70-66 win at home over Angelina in overtime.
Muttilib, who wears number 40 for the Rangers, scored 21 points in the loss to Lee, and also had three rebounds and two assists. He was 7-of-15 from the floor and hit two three pointers, and also went 5-of-6 from the free throw line in the loss.
In the win over Angelina on Saturday, Muttilib played the second-most minutes of the Rangers’ roster (37:28 – only Willie Williams, at 42:54, played more). He finished with 28 points, five rebounds, an assist and three steals, again hit 7-of-15 from the floor, went 4-of-8 from three-point range, and maybe most importantly, he was money – absolute money – from the free throw line when KC needed him. He went 10-of-10 from the line, including 6-of-6 in the overtime period.
In two games, Muttilib finished with 49 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and went 15-of-16 from the free throw line.
KC is 13-4 overall, 3-3 in conference play and 7-1 at home. They’ll play at Jacksonville College on Thursday night at 5 p.m., and then visit Paris on Saturday, a 3 p.m. tip-off.
Congratulations to both of these fantastic players for these performances, and for being chosen as the Whataburger-ETBlitz.com Players of the Week!
