WAKE UP! ON ETBLITZ, MONDAY EDITION | What A WEEKEND!

EDITOR’S NOTE: What do you do to get the best cup of coffee you’ve ever had, whether it’s tricked out, iced or just plain black? Where do you go to get a great sandwich, a snack, or teas and sodas that will hit the spot? Well, you drive yourself to Cozy Coffee Station, of course, in both Gilmer (at 755 Highway 271 North) and Kilgore (110 Midtown Plaza), in Credit Union of Texas at both locations. Look at their very elaborate menu before you go at Cozy Coffee Station, and keep up with CCS on Facebook at Cozy Coffee Station-Kilgore and Cozy Coffee Station-Gilmer, or on Instagram, @cozycoffeestation_gilmer or @cozycoffeestation_kilgore.

What about THAT for a second weekend of football?
The Dallas Cowboys looked good for two and a half quarters, and then it seemed like their momentum slowed after the game was put in a lightning delay at the 4:44 mark of the third quarter.
And before the game even started, Philadelphia defensive tackle Jalen Carter apparently lost his mind and spat in the face of Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott — in FRONT OF THE OFFICIALS. Carter gets kicked out, and without his large presence up front, the Cowboys were able to do some things on offense they might not have been able to do with Carter in place. What a moron.
Locally, Kilgore had few to no issues at Whitehouse, a 49-14 win. Henderson left its mark in Liberty-Eylau, scoring half-a-hundred, as “Bear” Bryant used to say, in the first win for coach Ricky Meeks. A very good Gilmer team faced a very good Chapel Hill team, went up 20 points and then Chapel Hill came roaring back to win. Pine Tree played another good opponent, this time on the road at Van, and came up short. Overton dropped its home opener to Carlisle in a non-district rivalry game. Beckville fell to 0-2, on the road at Joaquin. Coach Jermaine Lewis has Gladewater looking good, having now beaten Daingerfield and New Diana. Sabine played Harmony tight, but ultimately lost by 10. Leverett’s Chapel’s home opener went well — as long as you were there rooting for Leverett’s Chapel.
Tatum got its first win of the year, this one at home on a Thursday night. White Oak had an adventure late in the game against Paul Pewitt, but came out a winner with a late touchdown. Arp and Troup each won their home games, with Arp taking down third-ranked Garrison and Troup overcoming a scrappy performance by Edgewood for a win, and they’re both 2-0. West Rusk proved it can win on the road with a 10-point win at Diboll.
And Carthage? Well, the Bulldogs were off, an open date, but with the injuries they’ve had, they probably weren’t complaining.
It was a fun weekend of football and week three is coming quick.

What’s happening this week?
Later today, we’ll have both the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football state poll, and let you guys see who ALL the ranked teams are, from 6A all the way through six-man.
The Texas Girls Coaches Association’s state volleyball poll will also be out, and we’ll have a preview of the volleyball programs in the ETBlitz.com coverage area, as they begin district play, with their remaining schedules.
We’ll announce the Whataburger / ETBlitz Players of the Week, and we’ll have last week’s Kilgore Mercantile High Note of The Week, as well.
Joe Hale has already gotten together the standings for all of the 15 football programs in our area, and we’ll have those later today, as well as where everyone’s at this weekend.
We might even throw in a preview of the Cowboys’ home opener this Sunday against the New York Giants, and we’ll definitely announce, for the first time this school year, the Goudarzi & Young, LLP / ETBlitz Team of the Week for last week.

Rangers Report
The Texas Rangers managed to knock off their American League West division rivals, the Houston Astros, on Sunday, 4-2, and Texas is now 74-70 overall this season.
Houston is 78-66, and still leads the AL West. But Seattle is 75-66 and just 2 1/2 games back, and the Rangers have won seven of their last 10, and are only four games back. The Astros need to be living right the next few weeks to hold onto that division. Houston is off tonight, then begins a series in Toronto tomorrow night at 6 p.m.
The Rangers host the Milwaukee Brewers in a series that starts tonight, a 7:05 p.m. start, continues at that time on Tuesday and then moves to 1:35 p.m. Wednesday.
Texas takes Thursday off, then heads to New York to see the Mets for a weekend series that starts Friday night at 6 p.m.
