EDITOR’S NOTE: ETBlitz.com has only had two points of issue with its server in its near two-year history: on Dec. 1, 2023, and this past week. Unfortunately, some stories were affected and this is one of them. Overton’s Jayden Edwards and Troup’s Jakeira Davis were the Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Players of the Week for Jan. 13-18. This story should have appeared last week, and it’s our regret that it was unviewable to many. We’re re-running it, and here it is. The new Whataburger / ETB Players of the Week will be released on Wednesday morning!

JAYDEN EDWARDS

Do you think Jayden Edwards ever gets tired of winning?

Edwards, a senior at Overton High School, has been not only our choice for player of the week on a couple of occasions now, but also the Built Ford Tough statewide honor in football, as a wide receiver.

Guess what? Edwards plays basketball, too.

And something tells us if Overton had a tic-tac-toe team, Edwards would be on it and win a player of the week award, too.

This time, he’s joined by Troup’s Jakeira Davis, a first-time winner. What did Edwards and Davis win?

Well, they’re the Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Players of the Week for January 13-18, of course!

Davis helped her team win twice that week, and get coach David Minnix’s team their 20th win of the season.

Davis had 14 points and eight steals in a 37-31 win at home over White Oak on Jan. 14, and seven points in a 26-16 win over Sabine on Friday – that one was win No. 20 this year.

And Edwards?

Well, his week didn’t start off great; he scored seven points in a 74-35 loss to the Tyler HEAT on Tuesday (a HEAT team that is 27-2 against a good schedule). But he finished strong.

He had 26 points on12-of-17 shooting – with just one three-pointer and one free throw – and added four rebounds and three assists in a 71-31 blowout of Cushing on Friday.

So Edwards and Davis join this school year’s winners, which is really impressive. Here it is, if you’d like to go back and read any of those stories:

And what can we say about our title sponsor, Whataburger?
