THE GOUDARZI & YOUNG / ETBLITZ.COM TEAM OF THE WEEK | Henderson Lions baseball!

Is great defense the best offense?
Does defense win championships?
Of course it does – and on question No. 1 up there, we’re not sure.
But Henderson High School baseball coach Brock Lemire has the Lions buckling down – and keeping those opponents’ scores down.
In five of the last six games, the Lions have came out winners, and they held their opponents to one run or less in four of those.
Last week, the Lions cooled off a Gilmer team that had been playing pretty well, having won three of its last four before playing Henderson. Brian Biggs and Kayne Brantley on the mound proved to be not just a winning combination, but a lock-down one. Biggs and Brantley only allowed Gilmer four hits combined in two games, and Henderson won them both.
Because of that, Henderson baseball is the Goudarzi & Young, LLP / ETBlitz.com Team of the Week for the week of April 7-12

Henderson is now 14-10 overall and 7-4 in District 16-4A as the end of the regular season approaches, is battling Kilgore for third place in the district standings, both of them behind Spring Hill and Carthage.
The Lions have three games left in the regular season: a road game tonight at Carthage; Carthage at home on Friday; and then a trip to Tyler next Tuesday, April 22, to face last-place Cumberland Academy, that hasn’t won a district game.
Last Tuesday, Biggs pitched a complete game, a seven-inning one, to boot, and that is not easily done in 2025, with all the UIL-mandated pitch counts, and quite frankly, fatigue.
But Biggs did it, striking out 13 Gilmer Buckeyes – something else that’s hard to do, 13 strikeouts in a game – and he only gave up one hit. The only Gilmer player with a hit was Dillon Griffin, and the Buckeyes have a good lineup.
Brantley, who would go on to have a good night on the mound on Friday, had two singles, a double and 2 RBI in Tuesday’s 8-0 win. Maddox Hatchel had two singles and 2 RBI.
On Friday night, in the rematch in Henderson, the Lions were still playing lights-out baseball.
Brantley was backed up by great defense, and he only allowed three hits in a five-inning, 10-0 run-rule win.
Coy Freeman had two singles and an RBI for the Lions, and Caden Foster had a double and two singles.
Congratulations to the Lions for taking another win: the Goudarzi & Young / ETBlitz Team of the Week for last week.
