SOFTBALL PLAYOFF UPDATE | Carthage faces must-win situation; White Oak & Overton, too; Arp out; Beckville has advanced

Updating the five teams from the ETBlitz.com coverage area that made the University Interscholastic League’s softball playoffs…
Beckville
Lao Tzu said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
Not sure who exactly Lao was, but ol’ Lao was kind of Captain Obvious on that call.
Still, Beckville High School softball took a good-sized step in the UIL Class 2A playoffs by winning an area, or second round, series against McLeod.
The Lady Bearcats swept McLeod, winning game one, 6-1, and game two, 10-0, Wednesday.
Beckville (30-3-1) will meet either Lovelady or Woden in round three in a series to be announced — when we get the information, we’ll announce it here on ETBlitz.com.
Hannah Rogers had a double, a single and an RBI in Beckville’s game one win. Brilee Brumley had a single and a triple. Emily Grandgeorge had a single and 2 RBI, and so did Kenslie Owens. Kalee Cameron had a double.
On the mound, Grandgeorge allowed three hits in a complete-game performance, striking out nine and allowing just one walk.
In game two, it was Rogers who got the win, giving up just two hits. She had five strikeouts and allowed a walk.
Cameron had a home run and 4 RBI for Beckville. Kaitlyn Mauritzen had two hits and an RBI. Carli Tuttle and Grandgeorge each had two hits. Brumlee and K.J. Fletcher each had an RBI.
Overton
Game one of another series in the 2A playoffs went Overton’s way. Game two, though, did not.
So the Lady Mustangs’ series with Como-Pickton is tied at one each; a third and deciding game will be Saturday in Fruitvale at 6 p.m.
Kasha Williams went nuts for the Lady Mustangs: a home run, a double and three RBI, as they got the advantage of the series lead with the 4-3 game one win.
Also for Overton (18-15), Siann Levoy had a double, a single and an RBI, and Kelsey Vaught was the winning pitcher: seven hits allowed, but struck out two and walked two in the complete-game victory.
Things went the opposite way, though, on Thursday, a 7-5 Como-Pickton victory that evened the series.
In the loss for Overton, Vaught had two doubles and an RBI; Makayla Edwards had a double with 2 RBI, and so did Anna Perkins; and Sophia Shahzad had a double. Vaught went the distance on the mound again, all seven innings, and had six strikeouts and a walk.
For Como-Pickton (30-6 this season), Graci Adair had a home run, a double, and 3 RBI. Lexie Rainey walked seven, but also struck out six and got the win.
The winner of the series will play West Sabine in round three.
White Oak
This best-of-three series between White Oak and Atlanta is also tied at a game each.
But fans will have to wait through the weekend for the conclusion of the series.
Game three to decide it will be at Marshall at 6 p.m. on Monday. The winner will take on Whitesboro in round three.
In game one of the series on Wednesday night, the Ladynecks (32-7 this season) got 3 RBI from Makayla Fobb and a good outing on the mound from Emma White, lifting them to a 5-1 win. White had 12 strikeouts in the complete-game victory. She allowed just five hits and walked three.
At the plate, she had a double and a single. Madi Baker had a double, two singles and an RBI. Emma Fisher had a double and a single. Kylie Carraway had two singles and Andee Bridges had a single and an RBI.
For Atlanta, Landri Endsley had a double and an RBI. Keristen Underwood had a double. Gabby Arrendondo pitched, allowing seven hits, and had two strikeouts.
In game two, though, it was Atlanta that came out an 11-6 winner.
The Lady Rabbits got a double, a single and 4 RBI from Gabby Parofsky.
Fisher had a double, two singles and 3 RBI for the Ladynecks. Baker had two singles and an RBI. Fobb had two singles and Neeley Ollis had a single and an RBI. Carraway had a double.
White pitched five innings, with eight strikeouts earned, and allowed four hits and two walks. Addy Young also pitched, with three strikeouts, three walks and five hits allowed.
For Atlanta (25-10-1 this season), Lakeyn Wooten and Endsley each had a home run and a double. Arrendondo had a double, a single and an RBI, and Allesha Parkman had a double, single and 2 RBI. Wooten was the game’s winning pitcher.
Arp
The Lady Tigers are out, unfortunately, of the 3A postseason after running into a tough Hooks squad this week.
Arp finishes the season with a 26-2 record.
Hooks won game one, 15-8, then won game two, 17-2, for the sweep.
For Arp in game one, Cloe Gerard had a double, a single and 2 RBI. Cortlynn Quinalty had a double and a single. Avery Littlepage had a double, as well, and an RBI. Kaitlynn Raymond had four singles and an RBI. Neci Potts had two singles and an RBI. Fletcher had two singles, and Zoey Mills had an RBI.
For Hooks in the win, Stella Fincher had a homer, a triple and 2 RBI. Keeli Harris had a triple and a single, and 4 RBI. Peyton Morgan also had 4 RBI on a double and a single. Addison Castle and Hope Rankin each had a double, and Hadlee Grant had two singles and an RBI.
In game two, Littlepage had a triple and an RBI for the Lady Tigers. Potts had a single and an RBI.
For Hooks, Madison Lewis had a home run, a double, a single, and 3 RBI. Fincher had two doubles, two singles and 4 RBI.
Carthage
Carthage will have to win game two against North Lamar, or this best-of-three series in the UIL Class 4A playoffs will be over — and North Lamar will advance.
The series is being played at Pleasant Grove High School in Texarkana.
Game two is scheduled for tonight at 6 p.m.
Carthage (28-9) dropped game one to North Lamar, 3-2. North Lamar is 14-11 this season.
In game one, Brooklyn Bagley had a home run and a triple. Jaleah Williams also had a home run, and Addison Garcia had two doubles. Josie Stephens was on the mount for the Lady ‘Dawgs, and rolled up six strikeouts and allowed five hits and walked no one in the 3-2 loss.
Either Carthage or North Lamar will meet Godley in the next round.
