Jayden Sanders verbally committed to the defending College Football Playoff National Champion Michigan Wolverine on Saturday morning at the Kilgore High School indoor practice facility.

Sanders, a four-star commit, chose Michigan over 18 other reported offers.

Surrounded by family, teammates and friends, chose Michigan over his other two finalists Oklahoma State and Baylor, both of the Big 12.

When it was all said and done, Sanders took a few minutes to talk with Joe Hale of the ETBlitz.com. saying he was relieved to get that out of the way.

“It’s been a hectic few months and days,” said the Ragin’ Red senior, who can play both cornerback and safety in Kilgore’s defense, breathing a sigh of relief. He’ll also play some wide receiver for coach Clint Fuller’s Bulldogs.

“A lot of thought and prayer went into my decision,” Sanders continued. “For me, I feel, it was the place to go.

“I definitely feel I made the right choice. My family was all in no matter where I decided to go. I have no doubt about that.”

A few of Sanders’ opinions on some topics, quick-hit:

  • On colder temperatures: “That’s an adjustment I’ll need to make, but I’m sure I’ll (be able to) manage.”
  • On recruiting: “It was really interesting. Coach (Sherrone) Moore recruited me.”
  • Playing at “The Big House,” what Michigan Stadium (capacity 107,601) in Ann Arbor is also known as as well as being the largest stadium in the United States: “That’s the national stage.”

Now, with the recruiting over with for the time being, the senior leader of this year’s Bulldog secondary, continued, “We’ve got a big season coming up for us. I want my last season of high school football to be my best (yet).”

Asked about his following in the footsteps of past leaders in the Kilgore secondary, such as

Matthew Tyeskie and Zaylon Stoker, Sanders believes it’s his time and with a twinkle in his eye, he’s more than ready to step in and step up.
