RANGERS’ DAVIS, YOUNG COMING TO ET | To have Q&A at LeTourneau in Feb.

Management of the World Series champion Texas Rangers will speak at LeTourneau University’s Belcher Center in February for a question-and-answer discussion, a continuation of the East Texas Speakers Forum series.

Executive Vice President and General Manager Chris Young and Managing Partner and Majority Owner Ray Davis, a LeTourneau alumni who is from East Texas, will be at Belcher as part of the series on Feb. 1, a 7 p.m. start time. Tickets are already on sale at the Belcher Center’s box office at 2100 S. Mobberly Avenue. Prices are $29, $39, $59, $79 and $95.

The franchise has had its greatest success since Davis became owner in 2010, having won its only World Series under his leadership (just this past season, having beaten Arizona).

Young, who came on board with the Rangers after the 2020 season, is the ninth GM in Rangers’ history.

According to its website, the East Texas Speakers Forum is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing high-quality, inspiring individuals to speak on the local stage in East Texas to help enhance civic engagement and community education.

Past speakers have included former President of the United States George W. Bush, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and Whitehouse, Texas native Patrick Mahomes, and Top Gun pilot Col. Martha McSally, the first woman to fly a fighter jet in combat.

Through its events, according to the East Texas Speakers Forum site, the organization strives to increase understanding of issues of citizenship and common concern among East Texans; engage regional communities in important conversations about the public good; and to inspire its audiences to participate in civic conversations and act in the world as engaged citizens.

Among its board of directors: Kilgore City Council Member Place 3, Missy Merritt, and its President is former Longview News-Journal editor Ric Brack.
