GROESBECK — Pine Tree’s longest playoff run ever is over.

But what a ride.

Fort Bend Crawford ended the Pirates’ 2025 season here at Groesbeck ISD Stadium Friday, but it didn’t end like recent Pine Tree games, in some fantastic finish, or in a blaze of glory. It ended in uncharacteristic fashion, a 48-10 loss.

Pine Tree wrapped its ’25 season with an 8-5 record, but the third-round game was the farthest, the deepest run into the postseason in the history of the school’s football program. Ironically, Fort Bend Crawford advances into the fourth round of the UIL’s Class 4A, Division I playoffs to face one of Pine Tree’s district rivals, the Kilgore Bulldogs. Crawford has a 12-1 record, and who knows? Crawford’s Chargers may find that facing Kilgore isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

The Pirates led 3-0 early, a 29-yard field goal by Julian Ibarra with just over five minutes left in the first quarter (3-0 Pine Tree).

After that, though, Crawford began a run that would allow them to take over the game.

Chargers quarterback Braylen Fisher and receiver Alvin Mosley connected on a 42-yard touchdown pass a minute off the clock after Pine Tree’s field goal that would put Crawford in front for good, as it turned out, a 7-3 lead, and they extended it to 14-3 on a 24-yard touchdown from Fisher to Amir Johnson on the Chargers’ next drive, still in the first quarter.

Fisher got into the act with six minutes left in the half on an 8-yard run (21-3 Crawford), and then the Chargers added a field goal, a 39-yarder by Miguel Arana with 4 1/2 minutes left in the half. That was also the halftime score.

Pine Tree scored what would be its only touchdown of the game just after halftime, a 68-yard dynamic pass play from quarterback Colton Croft to receiver Bosston Johnson (24-10).

But the Chargers just had too much on this night. They’d add 24 more points in the second half, and unfortunately that would be all for the 2025 season for the Pirates.

Fisher finished 17 of 30 for 268 yards and three touchdowns to Mosely, Johnson and Justin Butler.

For Pine Tree, Croft went 11-of-36 for 158 yards and the touchdown to Johnson, who had four catches for 110 yards and the score. Roger Attaway had 135 yards on 20 carries. Croft was intercepted late for a touchdown.
