LITTLE CHANGE IN THE STATE POLL | Gilmer still third in 4A-DII; ‘Dogs still No. 8 in DI; Jefferson, L-E headed for 3A-DI showdown

Coach Alan Metzel and the Buckeyes are ranked No. 3 in the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football 4A-DII poll, six notches above their opponent this week, No. 9 Pleasant Grove. For the first time maybe all season, there was little to no movement in the two Class 4A polls among the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football rankings released on Monday, including two ETBlitz.com-area programs, Kilgore and Gilmer, who remained ranked where they had been a week ago.

Kilgore, who defeated Lindale, 42-21, on Friday remained slotted at No. 8 in the DCTF Class 4A, Division I poll, the larger of the two 4A divisions, and Gilmer is still ranked third in the DCTF 4A, Division II poll after dealing Van its second loss of the season.s

In fact, the 4A-DII poll remained exactly the same, one through 10, as it was on Oct. 14, including 6-1 Carthage ranked at the top. Brock (7-0) is second and Gilmer (5-2) third.

The Buckeyes visit ninth-ranked Pleasant Grove (5-2) in Texarkana this Friday, a 7: 30 p.m. kickoff.

As for the 4A poll that includes the Kilgore Bulldogs (6-1), it also remained the exact same as the Oct. 14 poll – see it below, along with all of the polls from 6A through 1A (six-man). Celina is undefeated at 7-0 and ranked first; Kilgore is still eighth; Kilgore’s District 7-4A, Division I rival Pine Tree (5-1) is ninth, and Chapel Hill, that fell out of the rankings last week, is not ranked again in this poll.

In other notes from the poll:

  • Lufkin (6-1) is still ranked No. 9 in the Class 5A, Division I poll. For the record, Aledo is No. 1 in that poll, and Highland Park is No. 5.
  • Texas High (Texarkana) is ranked fourth still in the 5A-DII poll.
  • A couple of East Texas programs – Jefferson (7-0) and Liberty-Eylau (6-1) – are ranked seventh and ninth, respectively, in the 3A-DI poll; both of those schools compete in District 8-3A, Division I, along with Gladewater, Tatum, Sabine, White Oak and Atlanta. Jefferson and L-E play each other on Nov. 1.
  • The sixth-ranked team in 3A-DI, Palestine Westwood (7-0), was in the news today for a much different reason: DCTF reported that Westwood was under investigation by a District 9-3A, Division I district executive committee over allegations that head coach Richard Bishop “orchestrated and executed a plan to videotape opponents’ signals while scouting.”

The district committee has recommended to the UIL State Executive Committee that Bishop be suspended for the remainder of the season, and has also ruled that Westwood will forfeit all of the district games on its schedule this year – including the ones it hasn’t yet played – and also suspended another Westwood ISD employee for all district athletic contests for the rest of the season.

  • Another East Texas team not in the ETBlitz area, New Diana, is still fifth in 3A-DII, after remaining undefeated (7-0) with a 35-11 win at Troup last weekend in District 11-3A, Division II.
  • Of note to Leverett’s Chapel fans: the Lions’ next opponent, Saint Jo, is ranked No. 10 in the 1A-DI poll.

So, why does ETBlitz run the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football poll, and in its entirety?

Because the DCTF poll is statewide, includes all divisions of UIL football, and is the oldest, most respected poll of Texas high school football.

High school programs covered by ETBlitz.com are (in alphabetical order) Arp, Gilmer, Gladewater, Henderson, Kilgore, Leverett’s Chapel, Overton, Sabine, Tatum, Troup, West Rusk and White Oak.

Here are the DCTF polls in their entirety, beginning with Class 6A. There are no 6A or 5A programs in the ETB coverage area.
