KILGORE-CARTHAGE TONIGHT! | Links to streaming broadcast inside; ETBlitz Road Show joins the pressure-cooker of the top-10 matchup

The Kilgore High School Bulldogs will open their 2024 football season with a bang tonight, facing off against longtime rival Carthage, in Carthage, a scheduled 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Already this first week, we’ve seen Gladewater take down Daingerfield, 21-13; Daingerfield’s Tigers went in to Jack V. Murphy Stadium Thursday night as the No. 2-ranked team in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s Class 3A, Division II poll, but the Tigers didn’t get out. Gladewater bit ’em, and pulled the upset in the season opener for both teams, even after a lengthy lightning delay.

Also on Thursday, in the game where the ETBlitz crew had completed the very first “ETBlitz Road Show earlier in the night, Tatum and Winnsboro finally began after a 2 1/2-hour lightning delay. It appeared for a while that Winnsboro might leave, or that the game might be postponed or called off completely.

But coaches agreed to play a half, and began that game at 9:17 p.m. Thursday night. By the time Cayden Tatum crossed the goal line over an hour later, returning a kick over 100 yards for a touchdown to help his Eagles seal the 29-14 win, Winnsboro likely wished it had left while the getting was good: the Red Raiders were also state-ranked, No. 12 in the DCTF Class 3A, Division I poll.

So, Kilgore and Carthage resume their rivalry tonight. Carthage escaped Kilgore, 30-27, a year ago in what many media members said was one of the most entertaining regular season games of the 2023 season. Carthage, winners of nine state championships in football, protects its home field well, and Kilgore will look to make a statement by knocking off the top-ranked team in 4A-DII. Coach Clint Fuller’s Bulldogs are ranked No. 5 in the state in 4A-DI.

And we’re going to try it again. The weather played havoc with our first “ETBlitz Road Show” on Thursday at Tatum. We did do the show, but many told us the video streaming was lagging, in all likelihood due to WiFi issues during the storm.
