GILMER BACK UP TWO SPOTS | Kilgore remains No. 6 in latest Dave Campbell’s state rankings

There was little movement in the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football state high school football rankings released on Monday, as few teams across the top-10 polls in all of the classifications lost – most every ranked team won.

There was this, involving an ETBlitz.com-area team: the Gilmer High School Buckeyes, defending UIL Class 4A-Division II champion, moved up two spots from number nine to number seven, now, in the DCTF 4A-DII poll.

Gilmer (6-3) got a huge day from quarterback Brady McCown last Friday: 19-of-27 for 376 yards and four touchdowns, as the Buckeyes routed Spring Hill, 59-28.

The now-No. 7 Buckeyes – who were ranked No. 3 for much of this season, but lost to Pleasant Grove two weeks ago – will travel to Paris to play North Lamar this Friday, in the regular season and District 7-4A, Division II finale.

Also in the 4A-DII rankings, Carthage (8-1) remains No. 1, where they were ranked all the way back to the preseason poll, in spite of the fact that they lost the season opener at home to Kilgore.

Coach Scott Surratt’s Bulldogs will face Brownsboro this weekend in their regular season finale.

Pleasant Grove (7-2), Gilmer’s 7-4A rival, is ranked No. 5 in 4A-DII.

In 4A-DI, where Kilgore is, there was little movement at all. Coach Clint Fuller’s KHS Bulldogs (7-2) had an open date last week, and remain ranked No. 6 in the state. There is this: Kilgore now leads the District 9-4A, DI standings. Both Kilgore and Pine Tree are 4-1 in district play, but the Ragin’ Red defeated Pine Tree, and with a win this Thursday at home over Mabank, Kilgore will wrap up the 9-4A championship and go into the playoffs as the No. 1 seed from the district.

Those Pine Tree Pirates (8-1), their only loss being to Kilgore, are ranked right behind Kilgore at No. 7 in the 4A-DI poll this week.

For the record, Celina (9-0) is No. 1 in that poll, with Austin LBJ, Alvarado and Stephenville rounding out the top four.

Gilmer and Kilgore are the only two teams from the ETBlitz.com coverage area currently ranked. ETBlitz covers those two programs, as well as Henderson, Gladewater, Sabine, White Oak, Tatum, West Rusk, Arp, Troup, Overton, White Oak, and six-man program Leverett’s Chapel.

At ETBlitz.com, we run the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football rankings every week because they are, by far, the most respected, most prestigious, most thorough rankings of any statewide poll.

And here, without further delay, are this week’s polls, beginning with Class 6A all the way through the six-man programs.
