ETBLITZ POWER PICKS! | Week two of picks from the ETBlitz staff! (w/VIDEO FROM COLLEGE STATION – DO NOT MISS)

For a second straight Thursday, the Tatum Eagles will try to knock off a state-ranked team. Tatum (1-0) plays at Daingerfield (0-1) tonight, a 7 p.m. kickoff, and the ETBlitz.com crew will be there. Also tonight, Overton (0-1) is at Carlisle (0-1), and somebody's going to be relieved to get a win; somebody else is dropping to an 0-2 hole. That's also a 7 p.m. kickoff. Below are our staff picks for the weekend; oh, and a little clip from College Station to get you fired up. (Photo by MITCH LUCAS; VIDEO BY MITCHELL MOLANDES)

We won’t beat around the bush: two of our 12 area high school football teams play tonight: that’d be Tatum, taking on Daingerfield in Daingerfield, and Overton, facing archrival Carlisle at Carlisle.

Tatum, coached by Whitney Keeling, is playing for the second straight Thursday night. The Eagles took down state-ranked Winnsboro last Thursday after sitting around for 2 1/2 hours of a lightning delay, then played only a half, making it count. It wasn’t a beat-down; the final score was 29-14, and Winnsboro did get in their licks. But Tatum sent a message, and Cayden Tatum (yeah, same name as his school) put the exclamation point on it with a 100-plus-yard return of a missed field goal for a touchdown on the game’s final play.

Daingerfield is also playing for a second straight Thursday, after being knocked off by another ETBlitz-area team, Gladewater, in another lightning-delayed game last week, 21-13. The Tigers are hosts this time out, though, and only dropped one spot — from second in the state in the Dave Campbell’s Class 3A, Division II poll to third — after the loss to the Bears. Tatum is the road team this time out. The game kicks off at 7 p.m.

Overton, meanwhile, will try to get back on the right track after opening the season at home with a somewhat surprising 17-12 loss to Alba-Golden last Friday night. They’ll have to do it on the road at one of their most, well, hated rivals, Carlisle, tonight, a 7 p.m. kickoff there as well.

Here’s the complete schedule for the weekend in high school football and high school volleyball, as well as some games of local interest in college and NFL football; the NFL’s opening weekend begins tonight, with Whitehouse High School’s own Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in action against Baltimore. The Dallas Cowboys open on the road Sunday at Cleveland.

By the way, Kilgore College is open again; they’re back in action next Saturday at home against New Mexico Military Institute, and that’s KC’s Southwest Junior College Football Conference opener.

Here is the schedule; scroll down below for the picks grid, who we believe will win the games. And don’t get too upset if one of us picks against “your” team. It’s all in good fun.
