DCTF RANKINGS OUT | Kilgore soars up; Gilmer No. 3; Tatum back in rankings

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football releases its state rankings of high school football of every classification every Monday afternoon during the season, and today’s poll has a big mover in the Class 4A, Division I poll.

That mover is Kilgore. And the Gilmer Buckeyes? They’re right near the top in the 4A-Division II poll.

Coach Clint Fuller’s Kilgore High School Bulldogs jumped from seventh in the last poll to No. 4 this week after shutting down Pine Tree last Friday, 17-6 (and it wasn’t that close; here’s our story, by Joe Hale: KINDLING! | Kilgore chops up Pine Tree, 17-6, in district opener for both teams (etblitz.com)). Pine Tree had been undefeated and ranked sixth in the poll, a notch above Kilgore, and the Bulldogs beat the Pirates handily.

Kilgore (4-1 overall, 1-0 in District 9-4A, Division I) hosts Henderson (4-1, 1-0) this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium – it’s homecoming for Kilgore.

Pine Tree is still ranked, falling from sixth to No. 10.

Kilgore defeated Pine Tree, 17-6, in a game really more convincing than its final score, and the Bulldogs moved from No. 7 in last week’s Dave Campbell’s Texas Football poll of Class 4A, Division I teams to No. 4 this week. Also in the 4A-DI poll: Chapel Hill, in the same district with Kilgore, Henderson and Pine Tree and a state finalist a year ago, blasted by Anna in the state championship game, is up three spots to No. 6, and Stephenville, who had been No. 1 for a few weeks running in the poll, is down to No. 2 – Celina is the new No. 1 in 4A-DI.

Gilmer, another top program in the ETBlitz.com coverage area, remains No. 3 in the 4A-DII poll. Gilmer (3-2), the reigning, defending 4A, Division II state champion, comes off a win over previously-unbeaten Brenham at a neutral site in Huntsville. Here’s our story by Phillip Williams (BUCKEYES KNOCK OFF BRENHAM! | Gilmer boots Brenham from ranks of the unbeatens, 51-37 (etblitz.com)).

Gilmer, who defeated Kilgore in week three, is stuck right now behind once-beaten Carthage (Kilgore beat them, back in week one) and Brock, a 5-0 team. The Buckeyes, in District 7-4A, Division II, have an open date this week.

And Tatum, another ETBlitz-area school who had been ranked No. 10 earlier this season in the DCTF Class 3A-DI poll, is back in that exact spot. The Eagles are 4-1 after shutting out Sabine, 63-0, last Friday. Tatum visits Liberty-Eylau on Friday.

Of note elsewhere across the DCTF rankings landscape: Duncanville is still atop the 6A poll; ditto for Denton Ryan, in the 5A-DI poll; Jefferson, who beat ETBlitz-area school Gladewater last Thursday, is up two spots in the 3A-DI poll to eighth; and New Diana, in the Longview area, is 5-0 and remained ranked No. 5 in the 3A-DII poll.
