DCTF NEW POLLS RELEASED | Kilgore drops to eighth, Gilmer up a spot; see them all, 6A through six-man, right here

Many wondered, no doubt, what would happen with the Kilgore High School Bulldogs in the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football state high school football poll this week, following Kilgore’s 24-22 — well, we’ll call it “loss” — to Gilmer on Friday night.

What happened was… Kilgore dropped down three spots in the DCTF Class 4A, Division I, or “big school,” poll. And Gilmer moved up a spot from sixth to fifth in the 4A-DII poll.

At ETBlitz.com, the two-point margin, the way things ended, the nature of the game — we disagree with the drop. We completely, totally disagree with it, and Kilgore shouldn’t have dropped at all, not one spot.

But we don’t get a vote in the DCTF poll.

You can make up your own mind about the end of the game by reading our stories here (TOUGH TO SWALLOW | Kilgore loses in final seconds at Gilmer; time expired, but should it have? (etblitz.com)) and here GILMER HOLDS OFF KILGORE | Buckeyes’ perspective of battle, by PHILLIP WILLIAMS (etblitz.com))).

A lot of people wondered loudly (a.k.a, on social media) if Kilgore would fall after losing the nail-biter, and many pointed out, rightfully so, that Carthage, the No. 1 team in the DCTF Class 4A, Division II poll, was still at the top of that poll and had lost, and that Gilmer was 0-2 coming into its game against Kilgore, and still ranked sixth.

So, why do we use Dave Campbell’s rankings and not our own? Why do we not just make UP a poll?

Well, that would be ridiculous, first of all, because there’s enough of that out there already.

We explain this every week, and here we go again. Here’s why.

At ETBlitz.com, we don’t believe that we’re in the business of making sports news; we’re in the business of covering those who do. And itt’s our place to cover, as best we can, the schools in our coverage area: Kilgore, Henderson, Sabine, Gladewater, White Oak, Gilmer, Tatum, West Rusk, Arp, Troup, Overton, and Leverett’s Chapel.

The DCTF poll comes out each week just after noon on Mondays. It’s statewide, and it’s by far the longest, most tenured, respected poll in the state.

The ETBlitz coverage area has no 6A or 5A programs, but we have those polls here because we think you might be interested in them.

There are three 4A programs in our area: Kilgore and Henderson, both in the larger 4A-DI, and Gilmer, in 4A-DII.

We have several 3A programs: Sabine, Gladewater, Tatum and White Oak, all in 3A-DI, and Arp, Troup and West Rusk, all in 3A-DII.

Overton competes in 2A-DII, and Leverett’s Chapel is in six-man football (1A).

Other notes of interest from this week’s polls:

  • Pine Tree, new to 4A after UIL realignment, moved to 3-0 after handling Dallas Carter last weekend, and is up to No. 7 in that very same 4A-DI poll. The Pirates, no longer an afterthought, are back in the district with old rivals like Kilgore and Henderson. That should be fun later this season.
  • In 6A, Duncanville is No. 1 and Galena Park North Shore is No. 2. And this just in: Water is, in fact, wet.
  • Note who 4A-DII number one Carthage plays this Friday: Chapel Hill.
  • Tatum lost for the first time this season, slipping at Newton on that long road trip. Although it was a close margin, and they have two wins over ranked teams, the Eagles dropped out of the top 10 in the 3A-DI poll.

Here they are, in their totality.
