CHANGES IN THE STATE POLL | Kilgore up two; Gilmer slips, but still ninth in latest DCTF rankings

Some changes this week in the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football rankings of high school football teams across the state, a few of them involving programs in the ETBlitz.com coverage area.

  • Kilgore is up to number six in the poll of Class 4A-Division I teams, the 4A classification with larger enrollment. The Bulldogs, who were number eight in last week’s poll, laid the wood to Palestine, 52-7, and Kilgore is 7-2 on the season, and off this week. The Ragin’ Red are 4-1 in District 9-4A, Division I, with only one game left in the regular season: that’ll be Thursday, Nov. 7 against Mabank at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium.
  • Pine Tree (7-1), in the district with Henderson and Kilgore as well, is also up two spots in the 4A-DI poll to number seven.
  • ETBlitz-area program Gilmer (5-3) is still ranked in the 4A-DII poll, but down to number nine after losing to Pleasant Grove in Texarkana last Friday night. Pleasant Grove moved up to number seven as a result of the win.
  • In the 3A-DI poll, Malakoff returns to number one after Columbus was upended last weekend. Malakoff (8-0) had been ranked number one early in the season. Also in the 3A-DI poll, Jefferson (8-0) and Liberty-Eylau (7-1) are ranked sixth and seventh, respectively, and will play each other for the District 8-3A, DI title this Friday at L-E. That’s the district that also includes Tatum, White Oak, Gladewater, Sabine and Atlanta.
  • New Diana (8-0) is up one spot to number four in the 3A-DII poll. New Diana visits Arp this Friday. ND leads that district – with Troup, West Rusk, Winona, Arp, and Buffalo – with no losses. Troup (6-3) pretty much wrapped up second place in the district with its overtime win at West Rusk last week. Troup, for that win, was named the Goudarzi & Young, LLP / ETBlitz.com Team of the Week earlier today (THE GOUDARZI & YOUNG, LLP / ETBLITZ.COM TEAM OF THE WEEK IS… | The Troup Tigers!).

So, why does ETBlitz.com use the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football polls?

Because they’re statewide, and they’re the oldest, most respected rankings for high school football in Texas.

To be clear, the ETBlitz coverage area for high schools is (in alphabetical order) Arp, Gilmer, Gladewater, Henderson, Kilgore, Leverett’s Chapel, Overton, Sabine, Tatum, Troup, West Rusk and White Oak.
