BULLARD, DANIELS SWIPE ‘EM! | They’re the Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Players of the Week

A pair of home runs not only lifted the Kilgore High School baseball team to victory, but also lifted a certain Bulldog to his second honor this year.

And a member of the White Oak softball team becomes the school’s very first honoree.

Kilgore’s Colt Bullard, who hit a grand slam home run in a wild and crazy game against Gilmer last Tuesday, then finished the week with a second homer – this one in Longview to beat rival Henderson – is the Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Boys Player of the Week for the second time this year.

Bullard the Diamond ‘Dogs found themselves in a back-and-forth battle last Tuesday at Driller Park.

In one of the highest-scoring games in recent Kilgore history, Bullard hit a grand slam home run as a part of an eight-run fifth inning for the Bulldogs, a huge day for the sophomore, who finished the game 2-of-4 with a single and a home run, and 5 RBI.

That alone might have been enough to earn him the player of the week honor, but Bullard cemented it on Saturday.

After rainy weather forced a postponement of last Friday’s game at Henderson, and a re-scheduling of the game on Saturday morning at Longview High School, Kilgore needed a win to remain undefeated in District 17-4A play.

Tanner Beets and Tate Truman got back-to-back hits in the first inning, and then Bullard cleared the bases with a home run over the left field fence, giving the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead. Bullard also had a single later in the game.

And that would hold, because it would be the final score. Kolton Hale was on the mound for Kilgore and, with great pitching and the defense behind him, was able to shut the Lions down.

So for his performances in both the Gilmer and Henderson games, Colt Bullard is the Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Boys Player of the Week for the week of March 11 through March 16.

And the young lady who wins last week’s girls award pitches for White Oak’s Ladynecks softball team.

Larkin Daniels helped lift the Ladynecks at the plate and on the mound, beating Spring Hill, 27-2, and then Sabine, 4-1.

Daniels doubled twice and had 4 RBI in the win over Spring Hill, and got the win on the mound with eight strikeouts and a walk.

In the win over Sabine, she pitched a no-hitter, striking out 18 along the way, and giving up three walks.

For her games against Spring Hill and Sabine, Daniels is the Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Girls Player of the Week.
