NEW DCTF POLLS RELEASED | For week of Oct. 14: Gilmer still third; Kilgore back in 4A-DI poll

Well – not really unexpected, but a bit of a surprise this afternoon with the release of the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football statewide high school football polls.

In Class 4A, Division I, the larger division of 4A, there are nine teams that have either zero losses or one loss. There’s one two-loss team.

That two-loss team is none other than the Kilgore High School Bulldogs.

Coach Clint Fuller’s Ragin’ Red soundly defeated previous No. 5-ranked Chapel Hill, 42-7, in a District 9-4A, Division I battle last week, and Chapel Hill felt slap out of the rankings as a result. Kilgore had been ranked before suffering its second loss of the season, a 27-24 loss at home to Henderson as time expired on Oct. 4.

And the Bulldogs, at 5-2 overall, are back in the poll, this time at No. 8.

Pine Tree, another 9-4A-DI team, is ranked right under Kilgore at No. 9.

Ironically, Henderson, another ETBlitz.com-area team and the only team in 9-4A with an unblemished district record (3-0 – the Lions are 6-1 overall) is not in the poll, but that could very well change if coach Clay Baker’s team leaves Pine Tree’s Pirate Stadium Friday night with a win.

Also still highly-ranked in the DCTF Class 4A-Division II poll are the Gilmer Buckeyes, another team in our coverage area.

Gilmer (4-2) is still sitting at third behind Carthage and Brock in the 4A-DII poll; the Buckeyes have been third for a handful of weeks. Gilmer opened its District 7-4A-DII schedule with a blanking of Pittsburg on the road last Friday, 49-0.

Also of note from the new DCTF rankings, released on Monday:

  • A trio of East Texas teams NOT in the ETBlitz coverage area, just in the East Texas region, are all ranked in the 3A-DI top 10: Palestine Westwood at No. 6, Jefferson at No. 7, and Liberty-Eylau at No. 9.
  • New Diana remains No. 5 in the 3A-DII poll, even after beating West Rusk last Friday. That’s fairly typical, because no one above New Diana in that poll lost over the weekend.

And why do we use the DCTF rankings? Easy.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football is A.) statewide, not regional. B.) is the most comprehensive, thorough ranking of any poll that includes all of the Texas / University Interscholastic League classifications. And C.) it’s the most respected.

By the way, don’t wait every year for DCTF to hit the stands. You can read new, fresh content as a subscriber on DCTF every day on www.TexasFootball.com.

A reminder: high schools  in the ETBlitz.com coverage area are (in alphabetical order): Arp (3A-Division II), Gilmer (4A-Division II), Gladewater (3A-Division I), Henderson (4A-Division I), Kilgore (4A-Division I), Leverett’s Chapel (1A (six-man) Division I), Overton (2A-Division II), Sabine (3A-Division I), Tatum (3A-Division I), Troup (3A-Division II), West Rusk (3A-Division II), and White Oak (3A-Division I).
