As hard as it is to believe, this weekend is the final weekend of the regular season for high school football in Texas. Teams not making the postseason, the playoffs, will complete their season this week. Those continuing on in the playoffs will play first round games next week.

One of the biggest games this weekend is actually tonight: Overton hosts Cushing, and the District 11-2A, Division II championship is on the line. Longtime Overton photographer Ronnie Sartors tells ETBlitz.com that an Overton win would give the Mustangs their first outright district championship since 1995.

Other key games this weekend:

Kilgore visits Henderson to decide which team will go into the UIL Class 4A, Division I playoffs as the third seed from District 8, and which will go in as the fourth-place team.

Gladewater hosts Atlanta, and a Gladewater win would bring the Rabbits back to the pack just a bit in District 8-3A, DI.

Can Troup finish the season strong? They’ll try, facing Jefferson on the road this weekend.
