LET’S RIDE! | Gladewater Round-Up Rodeo June 10-13

1937 has been a minute or two.
That year, Franklin Delano Roosevelt began his second term as President of the United States. Sadly, the Hindenburg disaster killed 35 passengers and crew when it burst into flames in New Jersey that May. The Golden Gate Bridge in the San Francisco area opened. Pilot Amelia Earhart disappeared. And Walt Disney released Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in theatres.
Oh, and the Gladewater Round-Up, a rodeo spectacular, debuted.
The 89th Gladewater Round-Up is back, Wednesday, June 10 through Saturday, June 13, at the Gladewater Rodeo Grounds (at 2502 W. Upshur Avenue in Gladewater).
Tickets are available right here: Gladewater Round Up Rodeo and X’Treme Bulls – Dirt Road Tickets.
For any night of the event, reserved seating tickets are $26 each for adults, and $15 each for children 12 and under. General admission tickets are $20 each for adults and $12 for children, and kids ages two and under are free (for general admission only).
Box seats (for six) are sold as a box only for $187.50 nightly.
Proceeds in part go to East Texas-area seniors involved in FFA, 4-H or other agricultural activities.
Wednesday night, June 10, features PRCA X-Treme Bulls. Thursday night, military and first responders will be admitted for 50 percent off, with valid identification.
Call (903) 845-5126, see Home – Gladewater Rodeo or email info@gladewaterrodeo.com for more information.
Gates open at 6 p.m. nightly for the rodeo, with mutton bustin’ at 7:45 every night. And the rodeo kickoff is at 8:15 each night. Mutton bustin’ features kids on sheep attempting to hang on and ride for six seconds.
Then the big guns come out, as the Gladewater Round-Up is a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) event.
J.N. “Jack” Yates, a North Dakota native who came to Gladewater during the oil boom of the 1930s in East Texas, is credited with founding the Round-Up. Among the rodeo cowboys of note who have competed at the Round-Up: Lane Frost, Don Gay, Ty Murray and Trevor Brazile.
