CARTHAGE SLIPS TO NORTH LAMAR | Softball playoffs continue for Overton, White Oak with huge third games

The softball playoffs will continue, but unfortunately not for the Carthage High School Lady ‘Dawgs.

Carthage dropped a 3-0 decision on Friday to North Lamar, and back-to-back losses mean the Lady ‘Dawgs’ season comes to a close in the second round of the University Interscholastic League’s Class 4A, Division 2 playoffs.

Carthage ends the season with a 28-10 overall record, and also won the District 15-4A championship and a first-round playoff series (over Canton) before falling to North Lamar at Pleasant Grove High School. North Lamar’s season continues against Godley in round three.

In Friday’s game two of the series, North Lamar was able to string out nine hits, but Carthage was held to just two – both of them by Addison Garcia. Garcia also walked once, as did Brooklyn Bagley and Josie Stephens.

Both Bagley and Stephens also pitched: Bagley went four innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on seven hits, and had three strikeouts. Stephens went three innings, allowing two hits, one walk and had four strikeouts.

Addison Michael went the distance on the mound for North Lamar, giving up two hits and three walks, but no runs, and she also had four strikeouts.

Averi Curtis went 3-of-3 for North Lamar, with two doubles. Alaycia Webster also had a double, and Kiki Sanders had 2 RBI.

Overton: As mentioned Friday on ETBlitz.com, Overton’s Lady Mustangs are also in a must-win situation to move on to round three of the UIL Class 2A, Division 2 postseason.

They’ll have that opportunity today, as they meet Como-Pickton for a third and series-deciding game three – that’ll be in Fruitvale tonight at 6 p.m.

Overton (18-15) won game one of the series; C-P bounced back for a game two victory.

West Sabine awaits the winner of this series.

White Oak: Coach Ninevah Blankenship’s Ladynecks are also in a tie, after beating Atlanta in game one of the best-of-three-game series, only to see Atlanta bounce back and claim game two.

Game three is Monday at 6 p.m. at Marshall – the winners advance to round three to meet Whitesboro.

White Oak is 32-7 this season to date.
