Some reminders:
- We had a poll a couple of weeks ago, a 20-question poll as a part of our very first Whataburger Personality Profile of the summer. It was a high school football poll. The results are in; you might want to check ‘em out. Here’s the link: POLL RESULTS! | Results from our Whataburger Personality Profile high school football poll are in!.
- There are still some youth sports camps going on. Only a few, but they’re out there. Catch up with ‘em in our Energy Weldfab Camp Central update here: CAMP CENTRAL, presented by ENERGY WELDFAB | Upcoming youth sports camps, updated July 13.
- We have a feature hitting later today on Arizona State defensive lineman C.J. Fite, the former Tatum High School standout. It’s called In Focus: C.J. FITE, presented by Kilgore-Gilmer Eye Care Center. I can’t give a link yet, but you’re gonna want to read it. C.J. is one amazing kid.

Ranger Report
The Texas Rangers got bitten in extras on Saturday night, leading the Houston Astros, but then allowed Houston to come back and tie the game – and ultimately win it in the 11th inning, 5-4.
Texas is now 47-49 on the season, and has the one game left today, in Houston, at 1:10 p.m. before Major League Baseball takes its break for the All-Star Game in Atlanta. The home run derby is Monday night, and then the game is Tuesday. So regular season play won’t resume until later next week.
That overall record for the Rangers lands them in fourth, currently, in the American League West Division, because they’re in lockstep with the L.A. Angels and have been for a while now. Houston, with a 56-39 overall record, leads the AL West. Seattle is in second at 50-45, and then L.A. (47-48). Texas is a half-game behind, and the Athletics – I guess the team without a home city – are in the cellar (40-57).
Texas will pick the schedule back up, as will the rest of Major League Baseball, next Friday, July 18. The Rangers will host the Detroit Tigers that day at 7:05 p.m. at Globe Life.
A wow! moment
Since I’m short today, I had been thinking about a game recently, and I wanted to share it with you guys.
It was a game between the state’s two top teams in 4A, a regular season game at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium between Kilgore and Gilmer to decide a district championship. We had a packed house, KLTV’s helicopter flying over, so many high stakes – just a fun atmosphere, maybe the most high-intensity regular season game that I’ve ever covered.
I found the highlight package on YouTube. And here it is. Now, this isn’t the complete game. But y’all enjoy.
