WR, ARP, TROUP, TATUM STARS HONORED | TSWA’s 3A All-State football team released

It’s been a minute, or two, since high school football season ended, but honors often come early the next calendar year. That’s not strange at all.

And as mentioned earlier today on ETBlitz.com, the Texas Sports Writers Association breaks its all-state team down into classification, of course, and the teams are chosen by the members of the TSWA, the people who actually cover the high school football games every week.

Since there is no statewide coaches all-state team, and since the TSWA members have no agenda, ETBLITZ.COM considers the TSWA all-state teams the REAL, honest-to-goodness all-state teams.

The TSWA’s 3A All-State team was released Tuesday evening, and several players in the ETBLITZ.COM’s coverage area made the squad.

Three West Rusk Raiders – senior offensive tackle Kason Reed, senior linebacker Luis Sanchez and junior linebacker Cole Jackson – made the cut: Reed on third-team, and Sanchez and Jackson each to honorable mention.

Reed helped the Raiders roll up 4,720 yards and to score 100 touchdowns in the 2023 season. Sanchez had 104 tackles, averaged eight a game and had six tackles for loss, a sack, a hurry and caused two fumbles, and Jackson had 122 tackles (led the team), averaged just over nine per game, three for loss, two sacks, four hurries, three interceptions, three fumble recoveries and caused a fumble, and was one of three ETBLITZ.COM Junior Juggernaut Award-winners.

Arp receiver Zane Borque was named honorable mention wide receiver. Borque, just a sophomore, incredibly, had 1,287 yards and 11 touchdowns on 61 catches, and averaged over 21 yards a catch in 12 games.

Troup had three players on this year’s 3A team, most notably Kansas State signee Trae Davis, who was named second-team wide receiver. Davis had 1,245 yards and scored 20 touchdowns on 67 catches and also had a rushing touchdown for the Tigers.

Teammate Colby Turner was named third-team tight end, and offensive linemen Joseph Salgado and Peyton Elliott were named honorable mentions on the team. The trio of seniors helped Troup’s Tigers score 63 touchdowns and to roll up 4,629 total yards. Turner also had 194 yards receiving and three touchdowns on 15 catches.

And finally, Tatum’s Cole Watson, a senior, made the team as honorable mention linebacker. Watson had 132 tackles, 19 for loss, five sacks and a pick-six, an interception for a touchdown for coach Whitney Keeling’s Eagles.
