WHO’S LEFT STANDING? | Here they are, and here’s when they play
And then, there were four.
Four teams from the ETBlitz.com coverage area are still standing in the University Interscholastic League baseball or softball playoffs, still with opportunities to make either of the state tournaments in just a few weeks, still with dreams alive this school year in front of them.
Those teams:
- The White Oak High School Ladynecks softball team, who beat Hooks in a best-of-three-game series in Marshall to advance to the UIL Class 3A Regional Quarterfinals. That’s round three of the playoffs.
Coach Ninevah Blankenship’s Ladynecks, who defeated Tatum in the first round, as well, will face Mount Vernon in another best-of-three series. It’ll be played at Grand Saline, and will start Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Game two will be Friday at 6:30 p.m., and game three, if it’s needed, will be Saturday at 2 p.m.
- Overton’s Lady Mustangs, who took down Bowie in the second, or area round in a best-of-three, are in the UIL Class 2A Regional Quarterfinals. Overton is facing Cross Roads in a series that begins at Tyler Legacy on Friday at 6 p.m. Game two will be Saturday at 4 p.m., also at Legacy. If a third game is necessary, it’ll be 30 minutes after game two ends.
Overton also defeated Martin’s Mill in the first round.
- Tatum’s Eagles in baseball, who moves on to the area, or second, round (baseball is a week behind softball). They will meet Winnsboro in round two. Winnsboro hosts game one on Wednesday night at 6 p.m., and then game two will be Friday night at Tatum’s Eagle Park, a 5 p.m. first-pitch. If they need game three to decide the series, it will be 30 minutes after game two.
The Eagles defeated White Oak in a best-of-three series in Marshall to reach the second round.
- West Rusk’s baseball Raiders, who some say pulled off the area’s upset to reach round two by knocking off New Diana. The Raiders are going to face Dekalb in a best-of-three series in Marshall. Game one will be Thursday at 7:30, and West Rusk will be the home team.
On Friday, for game two, West Rusk will be the visitor, also a 7:30 p.m. start.
Game three, if it’s necessary, would be at 2 p.m. on Saturday. All passes are accepted and tickets are $5 for adults, and $3 for students.
