It’s the announcement of the very first Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Players of the Week for the 2024-25 school year, and these two must have had some extra juice for breakfast last week, or something – or maybe went by Whataburger a few extra times.

Because both were unanimous selections with our panel. And that’s very, VERY hard to do.

It’s no secret here at ETBlitz.com that we like success – we like student athletes that excel at the “student” part, and of course, the “athlete” part is very important, too.

Last Friday at Spring Hill, with the game on the line, the pressure of Friday night football and the whole program on him – in fact, let’s be honest: the pressure of 75-plus-years of Sabine football weighing on his shoulders, Sabine senior quarterback Colt Sparks looked around at the hostile Spring Hill crowd, put his offense on the field one more time in the fourth quarter, and seemed to say, “We got this.”

And guess what?

They did.

We’ll put it in perspective: it was the season opener, not a third-round playoff game against Mineola, or someone, but it was a start, the kind of game that maybe Sabine had lost in the past.

Not Friday.

Sparks, all 6-foot-5, 215 pounds of him, broke free for a 70-yard touchdown, his fifth of the night. He led Sabine with 317 rushing yards – you know, from the quarterback position – and again, scored five touchdowns to go with 62 passing yards, in leading his team to a 50-48 just-as-wild-a-win as you’ll ever see.

And when the Cardinals get in a shootout this season, if that happens, they can look back and point to that game, and say, ‘hey, we can do this – remember August 30 at Spring Hill?’

For that performance, Colt Sparks is our boys Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Player of the Week, the first-ever player of the week winner in football, as it turns out. The awards didn’t begin until January, 2024, after the 2023 football season had already ended.

And the same thing with volleyball. This young lady is our first-ever volleyball winner, because volleyball season for 2023 had already ended prior to our awards last school year.

Tatum High School volleyball standout Kamdyn Scott (center) was joined by coach Leven Barker and teammates when she was presented with a gift by Jack Moore of Whataburger / DKT Investments for winning the Whataburger / ETBlitz.com girls Player of the Week Award, the first one of the season!

But Tatum High School’s Kamdyn Scott has one already in 2024, and might be starting something there for the No. 13 Lady Eagles.

Kamdyn had 32 kills and 19 digs in tournament wins over Tyler Legacy, Garland Naaman Forest, and Kaufman in the Forney Tournament last week, and just before that, she had 18 kills in a win over Henderson.

Tatum (21-5 on the season to date) is coached by the incredible Leven Barker, who already has passed the 750 career win mark. Tatum is set to host Pleasant Grove tonight, beginning at 4:30 with junior varsity games, varsity the nightcap, of course – and Tatum is undefeated at home (8-0) this season going into tonight’s games, but would you have expected any less?

For her performances against Henderson and in the Forney Tournament, Kamdyn Scott is the girls Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Player of the Week!

One thing of which ETBlitz.com is most proud is our relationship with our advertising partners, and one of the first to come on board was Whataburger, owned locally by DKT Investments.

Whataburger is not only the home of the best hamburgers, chicken and refreshments you can find, 24 hours a day, seven days a week – it’s also the home of your memories with your children, memories you make every single time you leave a game, stop in and have a meal with the team or just your family on a Tuesday, or a Friday.

That’s why it was so important last year to ETBlitz.com editor / publisher Mitch Lucas to bring Whataburger on board as an ad partner, because of what Whataburger means not only as a product, but to the lives and memories of the people in the East Texas region. Nobody – absolutely nobody – delivers more of those moments than Whataburger.

See their menu, breakfast, lunch or dinner, specials or permanent, lasting items, right here: Whataburger | Order Online with Curbside and Delivery.

And right now, back for a limited time, the Buffalo Ranch Chicken Strip Sandwich, the cold and creamy Dr. Pepper Shake, and the jalapeno cheddar biscuit. On that last item: don’t forget at Whataburger, breakfast is served not just in the morning, but from 11 p.m. until 11 a.m.
