WHATABURGER / ETBLITZ.COM PLAYERS OF THE WEEK | Kilgore’s Bullard, KC’s Lieme

Baseball and softball seasons are a week in, and one of the Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Players of the Week is very reflective of that.

Kilgore High School’s Colt Bullard, in five games played so far this season and 14 at-bats, has a .500 batting average, an on-base percentage of .579, with seven hits – five of them are singles, one is a double and one is a home run. He has eight RBI, and a slugging percentage of .786.

Bullard is the Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Boys Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 19-24.

But it was super-duper close, the closest player of the week so far since the award was established. Teammates Tate Truman and Cade Cox were nipping at Bullard’s heels – Bullard got the nod because of the eight RBI. Truman had a better on-base percentage (.647) and more overall hits (eight), but three less RBI. Cox had just as many hits as Bullard (seven) but two less RBI (six).

The Diamond ‘Dogs in the first five games are 3-1-1, with three wins over Sabine (14-4), Ford (9-1), and Sulphur Springs (18-2), a 4-3 loss to Van Alstyne, and a tie with Lindale, with all of those results except Sabine having been in the Community tournament last weekend (the win over Sabine was last Monday, Feb. 19, at Driller Park).

Kilgore’s last game was the win over Sulphur Springs last Saturday, and they won’t be in action again until Thursday, a 7:25 p.m. appearance against Farmersville at home at Driller as a part of their own Whataburger Oil Belt Classic Tournament (see the complete schedule as a part of our story here: WHATABURGER OIL BELT TOURNEY STARTS THURSDAY! | And here’s the lineup (etblitz.com)).

Our Whataburger / ETBlitz.com Girls Player of the Week (or Ladies Player of the Week in her case) is Kilgore College’s Perina Lieme, who scored 17 points in the Lady Rangers’ 86-69 Region XIV Conference road win on Saturday at Paris Junior College.

The Lady Rangers needed that win – they’re 9-3 in conference play, also 9-3 on the road, 16-10 overall, as the regular season is rapidly winding down.

Lieme also went 4-of-4 from the free throw line, had five total rebounds, two assists and a steal in the victory.

KC’s women will be home on Wednesday night, a 5:30 p.m. start against Jacksonville College, part of a doubleheader at home. The KC men will follow against Navarro, likely to start around 7:30.

Congratulations to both Bullard and Lieme for their player of the week honors, and always remember after the game – well, you don’t have to remember, because no one goes anywhere else EXCEPT Whataburger! Whataburger | Order Online with Curbside and Delivery
