WAKE UP! ON ETBLITZ | Preseason polls; Lebron a Maverick?!; it’s a classic ’80s Saturday!

EDITOR’S NOTE: Wake Up! is here on ETBlitz.com every single day, and our advertising partner for Wake Up! is perfect: it’s Cozy Coffee Station. That does NOT mean that people only drink coffee in the morning! That is such a 1950’s way of thinking! ðŸ˜€ Now, you’re just as likely — maybe MORE likely — to see someone with a cup from CCS in their hands as a soda! Seriously, if you’ve never tried Cozy Coffee Station, do it today. They are goooood. Check out their menu here:  Home | Cozy Coffee Station, and then go see ’em in Kilgore at 110 Midtown Plaza, or in Gilmer at 755 Highway 271 North. You’ll be glad you did.

The polls are OUT!

I don’t know why I was caught by surprise, but the preseason high school football polls, all of ’em, 1A through 6A, are out, maintained by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

As I’ve said many times, I’m a subscriber to their website,  Texas High School Football – Coverage From Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, and it’s worth it. I don’t do that a lot, throw business to someone else, but those folks do a great job.

If you want to go over and see the rankings, it may be behind a paywall, and you’ll need to subscribe. But we’ll have a story on the polls and have them in their entirety right here on ETBlitz.comlater today.

Lebron to Highland Park??!

OK, I’m not responsible for this. Don’t shoot the messenger.

There are people on ESPN (and Tim MacMahon from the Dallas Morning News) talking about the possibility, the remote possibility, the snowball’s chance in you-know-where possibility, that LeBron James becomes a member of the Dallas Mavericks this offseason.

I know.

I told you.

Apparently, some NBA “insiders” are thinking James, who averaged 24 points, almost eight rebounds, eight assists and averaged shooting 51 percent from the floor last year, even at 40 years old, may want to leave the Los Angeles Lakers for… well, somewhere else.

And Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving, two of James’ former teammates that he won championships with (Irving in Cleveland and Davis in L.A.) are both in Big D.

To me, that’s the end of the Mavericks’ connection. I know Davis and Irving are there, and No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg will be there for his rookie season this fall. But James kind-of-sort-of-probably manipulated things to get his son, Bronny, into a Lakers’ uniform, and I can see some of the conspiracy theories about Luka Doncic being traded from Dallas to L.A. because of Lebron’s career winding down actually being true.

But Lebron just signed a $52.6 million extension to stay with the Lakers, and he’s now the first guy ever to play 23 seasons in the league when it tips off in October.

So before we all go out and by Mavericks 23 jerseys, let’s slow our role a bit. At least, in my opinion.

Classic ’80s Saturday

It’s that time of the week. I needed this one.

It seems hard to believe, but this song actually hit in the early ’80s, 1981, to be specific.

I was 10 years old.

Yeah, not really worried about music. But I enjoyed this later in the ’80s.

I could’ve pulled several versions of this, and they’d all be good. This is The Go-Gos, “We Got The Beat.”
