Mustangs’ big opportunity is Wednesday

Coach Chris Cook and the Overton High School baseball Mustangs will be back on the diamond Wednesday at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, weather permitting, to play game one of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 2A, Division II state semifinals.

It’s a best-of-three series against the Burton Panthers, scheduled to be played in its entirety – either two or three games – at Sam Houston State.

Game one is Wednesday night at 6 p.m. The Panthers are the home team.

Game two is Thursday at 4 p.m. – Overton is home for that one. If they need game three, it’ll start 30 minutes after the conclusion of game two.

Tickets will be $10 each for adults, $8 each for students, and can be purchased at the gate with credit or debit cards.

The winner advances to play either Stamford or Collinsville in the 2A-DII state championship on Thursday, June 5, at 9 a.m. at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.

Listen the Mustangs play Burton on KWRD 1470AM-98.5FM and streaming on Network1Sports.com here (Network1Sports). It’s audio-only, but it is free, with no subscription.

Currently, there’s no indication that Overton-Burton will be streamed live on NFHSNetwork.com, but if we see a streaming outlet for the game, we’ll put the link here on ETBlitz.com, and on our social media.

Youth sports camps in Camp Central

We’ve gotten a couple of new sports camps for kids in our Camp Central roundup, and by the way, the Kilgore Bulldog Baseball Camp that was delayed a day on Monday due to all the weather is going to start today.

Here’s the link to everything we have on upcoming youth sports camps, from now throughout the summer: CAMP CENTRAL.

KC Athletics Hall of Fame inductees announced

Football season will be here before we know it, and with it in early October comes Kilgore College’s Hall of Fame Weekend.

That weekend, the 2025 inductees into the KC Athletics Hall of Fame will be honored at a brunch, and then will be introduced at the Rangers’ game.

The inductees have been announced, and they are Bernard Barrow, former KC men’s basketball standout; Heather Bunn, former Rangers softball player; Chris Craddock, in the contributor category; Jade Thurmon, who starred for Lady Rangers basketball in 2016-18; former KC student and current ESPN college football writer Dave Wilson, who will receive the Spirit of Excellence Award; and the 1982 KC football team.

We’ll have the schedule at a later date, and more on the inductees, but an early congratulations to all of these who have meant so much to sports at KC.

Let’s Rodeo

Let’s round-up, anyway.

The PRCA’s Extreme Bulls will be the first night.

Thurmon played at KC in 2017 and 2018, and led the nation in scoring as a freshman, scoring 23 points a game.
