WAKE UP ON ETBLITZ.COM | Dak says he’s a go for training camp; a surprise later today on ETB; is there hope for the Rangers?

Some surprises later today

I won’t give it away, but we have a few surprises that’ll be here on the site later today related to sports in the upcoming school year.

I’ll quote the Riggs character from “Lethal Weapon 2” again: “You’ll know it when you see it.”

Dak says he’s ready to go

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott – whom I’m on record saying is a wonderful person but should be starting somewhere besides the Metroplex – says he’s ready to go for Cowboys’ training camp, which will once again be in Oxnard, California, and players report July 20.

Let’s get technical here for just a second: Prescott missed the last nine games of the Cowboys’ 2024 season with what was called “a partial avulsion of the hamstring tendon.”

In other words, he tore his hamstring.

The Cowboys finished the season with a 7-10 record, missed the playoffs and then parted ways with coach Mike McCarthy. Literally, like he allegedly didn’t get fired and didn’t quit: they just parted ways.

At any rate (insert wink here), Dak, now 31, has been conducting a football camp at Southlake, and he took a moment Tuesday to visit with media.

“I’m healthy as I’ll be,” Prescott said. “I’ll be full go for camp. I’m healthy. Yeah, I think soon here I’ll probably get the official sign off from doc, but I’m healthy.”

Don’t look now, but maybe things are turning for the Rangers

Is it barely possible that the Texas Rangers have good things happening for them right now?

The Rangers, on the road in California, blasted the L.A. Angels, 13-1, on Tuesday night, beating down an American League West Division rival. And the just-as-good news (for Rangers fans) was that the Houston Astros lost again, 10-6, to Cleveland, and are in danger of being swept in the series.

Texas can make some things happen here, can control its own destiny somewhat.

The Angels are the team right in front of them in the AL West. They have two more games against the Angels this week: tonight and Thursday, both 8:30 p.m. starts here our time. And then they go to Houston for a weekend series.

The Rangers can really do some damage leading into the All-Star Game break if they can leave L.A. with what would be three straight wins, then somehow win the series in Houston.

That win Tuesday night put the Rangers back in third in the AL West (45-47 overall) and dropped the Angels a half-game behind. They’re 3 ½ behind Seattle (48-43) and Houston is a distant first, outpacing everybody with a 55-37 record.

There’s no catching the Astros anytime soon. But in baseball, the chase – over a 162-game season – is about chipping away. And this week, the Rangers have a chance to do a ton of chipping.

Tuesday, the Rangers scored the bulk of their runs in the fourth and fifth innings: a five-run fourth, and a four-run fifth, if you followed that. They finished with 12 hits.

Corey Seager, Wyatt Langford and Jake Burger all hit home runs. Seager hit his 13th in the sixth, a solo homer. Burger followed, his 11th of the season, in the seventh, and Langford hit his in the eighth, a two-run shot. Langford has 14 homers this year.

Eovaldi got the win; he’s 6-3 on the season. He went six innings, even, and allowed no earned runs (one unearned) on five hits, walked no one and had six strikeouts.

Mike Trout, by the way, went 0-fer for the Angels. I don’t mean to knock, I’m sure he’s great. But every time I watch the Angels, Trout doesn’t have a good night. It’s absolutely weird. He’s supposed to be one of this generation’s best players, but it’s just not happening when I watch him.
