Overton (27-7), winners of 12 of their last 13 games, meets rival Beckville in round four, the regional finals, in the University Interscholastic League’s Class 2A-Division II playoffs.

The Mustangs will face Beckville in a best-of-three-game series. That series will be played at Longview High School.

Game one will be Wednesday at 5 p.m. Beckville will be the home team for game one. Game two will be 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

Tickets will be $7 for adults, $5 each for students.

Rangers top Astros, 5-1

If you didn’t stay up and catch it, or if you were just plain and simple too busy, the Texas Rangers hosted Houston again on Saturday night at Globe Life, and won, 5-1.

Texas has won seven of its last eight.

Wyatt Langford and Joc Peterson both hit home runs for Texas, and the Astros were charged  with three errors, leading to three Rangers runs.

Tyler Mahle got the win on the mound for the Rangers. His 2025 record moved to 5-1. Mahle gave up just one run on five hits, walked two, and had three strikeouts.

Jacob Webb (two strikeouts), Chris Martin (zeroes across the board in the eighth) and Robert Garcia all pitched in relief for the Rangers.

Ronel Blanco took the loss for Houston, giving up three runs on five hits, walked three and had five strikeouts.

Texas was already up 4-1 when Langford hit a solo homer to left. It was Langford’s ninth home run of the season, and he leads the team.

The two teams meet again at Globe Life today, a 12:05 p.m. start. Jack Leiter will go for Texas on the mound, and Houston will throw Framber Valdez.

After today’s game, Texas (25-22) will take Monday off, then head to New York for a series against the Yankees (26-19). Houston (23-22) visits Tampa (21-24), beginning with Monday’s game at 6:05 p.m.)
