WAKE UP! on ETBLITZ.COM | Awaiting Overton’s playoff series announcement; camps, camps, camps; go to the rodeo June 4-7 in Gladewater

EDITOR’S NOTE: This morning’s Wake-Up is more like Already-Up because we didn’t hit the little “publish” button before going to bed last night. A stupid mistake. Our apologies. But it’s presented by Cozy Coffee Station, and they have all kinds of great items ALL day long at both their Kilgore and Gilmer locations – look and see what you want before you go on their website, right here: Home | Cozy Coffee Station. Then turn out to 110 Midtown Plaza in Kilgore, or 755 Highway 271 North in Gladewater, and pick that up. Grab your item and stay awhile, if you’d like. And check them out on Facebook and on Instagram, too!
Overton baseball
Well, there IS a little bit of an update.
As Overton High School fans know, the Mustangs swept Beckville on Wednesday at Longview High School in the UIL Class 2A, Division II Region III Finals – man, that’s a mouthful.
Overton has been waiting on the Burton-Shiner series to finish for an opponent in the 2A-DII state semifinals. Apparently, Burton has won that series, two games to none.
Overton and Burton were to negotiate their series today, and we should know something sometime today. When we do, we’ll have it on ETBlitz.com, and “on our socials,” as they say now.
Here’s our story on Overton-Beckville: OVERTON SWEEPS BECKVILLE | Mustangs to 2A-DII state semifinals with a pair of wild wins.
The Mustangs are 29-7, and have playoff series wins over LaPoynor, James Bowie (the school, not the dude), Gary, and most recently, Beckville.
We’ll have more on Burton later, but they’ve beaten Big Sandy, Harper, Flatonia, and then Shiner.
Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame induction today
We had this story yesterday, but the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame is inducting its 2025 class today (COTTON BOWL INDUCTS EIGHT INTO HALL | …and the Rangerettes will be on hand (w/VIDEO)).
The Kilgore College Rangerettes will be on hand for the induction, as they are for all things Cotton Bowl – I’m not even sure they can PLAY the Cotton Bowl without the Rangerettes there. They’ve been an integral part of that classic for generations.
Our own Alex Nabor is right in the middle of things, and Alex will hook us all up with photos and who knows what all, but coverage of the event later here on ETBlitz.com.
Oh, and if you want to watch the streaming broadcast of the induction live, it’ll begin around noon, here on the Cotton Bowl’s YouTube channel: Cotton Bowl Classic – YouTube.
Youth sports camps all over the place
The annual Kilgore Bulldog Baseball Camp is Monday.
In fact, it’s Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at Driller Park in Kilgore, and that’s just one of a host, as a friend of mine used to say, of camps all over the ETBlitz area in coming weeks.
We’ve got a little thing we call CAMP CENTRAL, where we update those camps for parents, kids and even the coaches who organize ‘em, and here’s the link: CAMP CENTRAL | Youth sports camps coming up across the ETBlitz area (updated May 21).
By the way, coaches, if your camp isn’t listed here, e-mail me at mlucas@etblitz.com and we’ll fix that.
Are you a rodeo guy (or girl)?
The 88th annual Gladewater Round-Up is, like, right upon us.

The PRCA’s Extreme Bulls is the very first night.
General admission for adults is $18 a ticket; for kids 12 and under, it’s $10 each, and for kids two and under, it’s free.
