WAKE UP! ON ETBLITZ | A spectacular 7-on-7 gallery from Alex Nabor – and everybody wants to rule the world on a ’80s classic Saturday

EDITOR’S NOTE: We can’t emphasize enough how much here at ETBlitz.com that our ad partners are appreciated, because without them, it would be difficult to keep the site paywall-free. So thanks to all of them, and in this particular case, thanks to Cozy Coffee Station, who presents Wake Up! on ETBlitz every single day. And we do business with our sponsors, all of our staff. I don’t know that I have an absolute favorite item at CCS just yet, because everything I’ve tried has been great. Go take a look at their menu and decide for yourself: Home | Cozy Coffee Station. They’re located in Kilgore at 110 Midtown Plaza, or in Gilmer at 755 Highway 271 North. Go see ‘em and I promise you, you will be glad you did.
7-On-7
You’ll also be glad you opened Wake-Up today for the photos that Alex Nabor has presented, from the Texas State 7-on-7 football Tournament at Veterans Park at College Station.
Before Alex’s photos, let me say this: this was a great experience. Sure, it was hot, and we joke about the heat. Yes, it’s different than actual football. But it is fun. It is a different KIND of football.
And once I get my notebook back from Alex (because I forgot it, left it in his truck, because I fried like a French fry on day two, and had to treat my legs that looked like Christmas hams by the time we got back to Kilgore), I’m going to have a wrap-up for you guys tonight AND a list of my favorite things and observations from the last couple of days. I think you’ll get a kick out of it.
Alex’s Art, special edition
Alex Nabor, former Kilgore High School student turned Kilgore College student ABOUT to turn four-year college student, has shot photos for me since he was 16 years old. Alex has shot everything for me that you can think of, but our favorite thing to do together, and I think he’d agree with this, is football.
We’ve gone to everything from 7-on-7 to high school regular season games that meant a lot, to college games, college bowl games to high school state title games to the Big 12 Championship Game and even the College Football Playoff. And he’s not even 21 years old yet. No moment has been too big for him and I want it on record that Mitch said it, before he’s shooting for The Athletic, or for NFL.com that I predicted it. Y’all got that?
Good.
Moving on…
When Alex was younger, we used to do a feature we called “Alex’s Art,” just a gallery of great photos that he shot at one of those events. He’s always been good, his work is proven, and I sort of think he’s outgrown the “Alex’s Art” title. But now he’s great, and these photos prove me right.
Enjoy with me, through Alex’s photos, Kilgore’s second day at the 7-on-7 tournament. And come back later for my own personal wrap-up, once I get my notebook back. 😊

Classic ’80s Saturday
I did NOT forget that it’s a classic ’80s Saturday.
This one defined a generation (that would be mine, Generation X). It’s called “Everybody Wants To Rule The World,” by Tears For Fears. Maybe you’ve heard it. Great, great song. It was the lead song for a movie starring the now late, but great, Val Kilmer that you should also go see, if you haven’t.
Here it is again.
Y’all come back later for my 7-on-7 wrap-up.
