UNT, NELSON ON RIGHT NOW | Former Kilgore standout OL, Mean Green facing Texas State

Former Kilgore High School offensive lineman Braydon Nelson is playing in the Servpro First Responder Bowl right now.

Nelson, now an O-lineman for the University of North Texas (6-6), is currently facing Texas State University (7-5) in the bowl game, currently airing on ESPN.

The game is being played at Gerald Ford Stadium in Dallas.

The bowl has been played since 2014, and honors just what it says: police officers, paramedics, all EMS workers, firefighters and others.

This game was formerly known as both the Heart of Dallas Bowl and the TicketCity Bowl. It’s been known as the First Responder Bowl since 2018.

UNT is in the First Responder Bowl for the third time; Texas State was in it a year ago.

It’s the 40th meeting between UNT and Texas State, but the first since the 1994 season. UNT holds a 29-7-3 lead in the series.
