UIL STATE CHEER | Results from 3A; lists of girls who competed from our area; Kilgore, Gilmer compete today (w/video)
It was late Thursday night before we really knew, before the University Interscholastic League released everything officially.
But a handful of cheer programs from the ETBlitz.com coverage area that competed in the UIL’s State Spirit Competition did well on Thursday in that event, held at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
It continues Friday, as both Kilgore and Gilmer compete in Class 4A – Kilgore will compete in 4A, Division I, just like in football, and Gilmer in 4A, Division II.
Classifications 1A, 2A and 3A, and coed cheer teams, all competed on Thursday. Tatum – led by sponsors Tammy Holder and Kim Permenter – had the highest overall finish of the teams from the ETBlitz area, finishing seventh overall among 3A Division I teams. The Eagles’ cheer program, in the decade since the state spirit competition has been held, has never finished out of the top 20.
Tatum finished with an overall score of 82.63, scoring a 39.87 in crowd leading, a 42.77 in band chant and fight song.
Shallowater, the 2023 spirit state champions, repeated as state champs in 3A-DI, with an overall score of 92.70. Kirbyville (88.37) was second, and Corpus Christi-London (87.77) was third.
Sabine, another program in the ETBlitz area, was 16th overall in 3A-DI – the Cardinals had a 73.10 overall score, with 40.03 in crowd leading and 33.07 in band chant and fight song.
White Oak also competed in 3A-DI, just missing out on the top 20 finishers. And Gladewater was there to observe in 3A-DI.
And both Arp and Troup competed in 3A, Division II on Thursday in Fort Worth.
Troup finished 19th overall, with an overall score of 75.00 – 39.40 in crowd leading, and 35.60 in band chant and fight song. Arp missed on making the top 20.
Scurry-Rosser, by the way, won the state title in 3A-DII, with an overall score of 91.33, with Woodville (90.20) second, and Jacksboro (89.70) third.
ETBlitz would like to publicly thank all of the teams for sending great videos and photos on their trips to Fort Worth – they’ve been very popular, and we’ve gotten great feedback on them, more even than we thought we’d get.
