TYESKIE COMES UP BIG | Kilgore alum sets new PR, school record in Arkansas Invitational indoor meet

Arkansas-Little Rock track standout Matthew Tyeskie

Matthew Tyeskie, the former Kilgore High School track & field and football standout now competing for University of Arkansas-Little Rock track, topped his own personal record in the indoor 60 meter hurdles.

Tyeskie set the mark at the University of Arkansas’s Arkansas Invitational on Friday at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville. The event was broadcast on the SEC Network+ streaming channel.

It was the beginning, the first meet, in the UA-LR track and field season.

Tyeskie’s record, as mentioned, is a PR, and also tops the former record, which the Kilgore native also held. He’s the only Trojan ever to run the 60-meter hurdles in under eight seconds.

Tyeskie and the Trojans will be back in action at the Robert Platt Invitational in Houston on Jan. 26.

Tyeskie built his track reputation while in high school here in Kilgore, winning in the Texas Relays, then winning state championships in hurdles at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Track & Field Championships, representing KHS at the University of Texas in Austin.
