TRACK REGIONALS | Postponed until Monday
EDITOR’S NOTE: This is an ongoing story, as things happen, from University Interscholastic League regional track meets at Bullard (Class 4A meet with Kilgore and Henderson athletes), and Whitehouse (a Class 3A meet with athletes from Arp, Gladewater, Sabine, Tatum, Troup, West Rusk, and White Oak). The Palestine regional with Overton athletes was Friday. Athletes who finish in the top two in their events move on to the UIL State Track & Field Championships at the University of Texas in Austin May 2-4. We’ll do a recap when regionals are over.
JACORY WALTON, Kilgore, a state qualifier in the boys high jump! This just happened moments ago, but ETBlitz was notified and received the photo from Kilgore coaches T.J. Gillen-Hall and Nick Sanders that Walton finished second in the high jump at Bullard. Congratulations, Jacory! And he’ll be in Austin the first week of May.
Both regionals in Whitehouse, the 3A event, and in Bullard, the 4A meet, have been postponed until Monday because of rain and thunderstorms.
West Rusk head football coach and athletic director Rafe Mata confirmed that to ETBlitz just before 2 p.m. from Whitehouse, and said that the running events never got started at their location, and that the meet will resume Monday at 11 a.m., back at Whitehouse. Again, that’s athletes from West Rusk, Arp, Troup, Tatum, Gladewater, White Oak, and Sabine at that meet, all in the ETBlitz.com coverage area.
Kilgore coach T.J. Gillen-Hall confirmed similar news from Bullard, that the meet there has been postponed until Monday. Field events will resume at noon, and running event finals will start at 3. Kilgore and Henderson athletes are in that one.
Athletes who have already qualified for the state meet include Kilgore’s Jacory Walton (above), in the 4A boys high jump; Braydon Nelson, also from Kilgore, who won the 4A boys discus; and Sam Black, from Sabine High School, winner of the 3A boys discus there in the Whitehouse regional.
