After some pretty fantastic performances down the stretch in the 2024 school year, there are some athletes in the ETBlitz.com coverage area that have been recognized by being named to the Texas High School Coaches Association Super Elite Team.

These are divided by classification, and it should be no mystery that Kilgore’s Braydon Nelson, who finished second in shot put at the UIL State Track & Field Championships and then a few hours later, won the discus on his last throw, was named THSCA Super Elite for Class 4A.

It was actually Nelson’s second Super Elite Award of the season: he was also the Bulldogs’ left tackle in football, of course. Nelson graduated in May from KHS and is headed to the University of North Texas, where he’ll continue his education and suit up for Mean Green football.

Joining Nelson as Super Elite are Gladewater teammates Peyton Hunter and Paytin Thompson, on the THSCA Super Elite Class 3A Girls team.

Hunter and Thompson helped the Bears take silver in the 400 meter relay at the UIL state meet at the University of Texas the same day that Nelson pulled off his feat, crossing the finish line in 47.48 seconds, just behind Goliad’s 46.89.

Then, Hunter took silver in the 100 meter dash just moments later, finishing in 11.91 seconds, right behind Universal City Randolph’s Taylor Nunez (11.46). And Thompson was fifth in the state in the 200 meter dash (25.05 seconds).

The Bears were champions of their district, of course, and ran through area and regionals, too. Both Hunter and Thompson will be back to run for Gladewater next year. Thompson is just a freshman!

Congratulations to all three from ETBlitz.com on this achievement.
