THE MUSTANGS! | Overton baseball chosen the Goudarzi & Young / ETB Team of the Week!
Last one out, turn the lights off.
Or in this case, last one out – maybe win a state championship?

The Overton High School Mustangs have played two series in the University Interscholastic League’s Class 2A, Division II playoffs. And they’ve swept both.
They’re off to round three, which begins tomorrow. But first, a look back at round two – and how the Mustangs wrapped and put a bow on the Goudarzi & Young, LLC / ETBlitz.com Team of the Week.
Overton, now 25-6 and winners of 12 straight games, was coming off the pressure of a one-game playoff against La Poynor as the second playoff series began.
The Mustangs would face off against James Bowie in round two, the area round.
But unfortunately for Bowie, Overton picked right up where it left off in the regular season and against La Poynor.
The Mustangs run-ruled the Pirates, 11-1, in game one, then shut Bowie out, 5-0, in game two to capture the series and the area championship.

Rylan Holleman shut down the Pirates in a very good five-inning performance on the mound: eight strikeouts, just two hits allowed, only three walks allowed and one earned run. Holleman threw 77 pitches and faced 20 batters.
At the plate, the Mustangs had eight eights. Holleman had a triple and an RBI and scored twice, and Bryson Bobbitt, Mason Rowe and Brody Brown each had two hits: Rowe had the two singles, 2 RBI and scored a run; Brown had two hits, one of them a double, 2 RBI and scored twice; and Bobbitt had two hits, including a double, and also scored twice. Also, Braxton Harper had a hit, 2 RBI and scored twice.
Bowie pitching walked four and the Pirates did commit an error.
In game two: more of the same. Bowie had only two hits, and was charged with three errors this time out. The game was closer, but Overton still had five runs on three hits, scoring four runs in the second inning, then one late, in the seventh.
This time, the three hits belonged to Rowe, Joey Zalman and Jayden Edwards. Zalman had a hit and scored a run; Rowe also had a hit, and scored twice; and Edwards had a double, 2 RBI and scored a run.
Overton was impressive running the bases: six stolen based in the game. Edwards had two, and Rowe, Zalman, Brown and Bobbitt each had one.
On the mound, Bryce Still and Landon Hill combined to shut Bowie down. Hill was good for six innings of scoreless baseball, striking out four, walking three and allowing just the two hits. Still came on late for one inning, allowing no runs and no hits, walking just one.
The Mustangs will see Gary this week in round three, the regional semifinals. That series begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Hallsville High School, and then resumes there on Friday at 5. If they need a game three to settle it, game three would begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of game two.
The winner of Overton-Gary will face either Beckville (21-6) or Hemphill (15-15) in the regional finals, at a site and on a date to be determined, sometime next week.
Overton baseball is coached by Chris Cook, assisted by Scotty Laymance.
Let’s talk about another team: the team at Goudarzi & Young, a law firm established by Brent Goudarzi in Gilmer back in 1997.
That firm is now among the nation’s best in the practice of 18-wheeler and car accidents, insurance claims, burn injuries, oilfield injuries, property and product injuries, and wrongful death.
You’ve seen their advertisements on television, on billboards across East Texas, and here on ETBlitz.com. And there’s this: on ETBlitz.com, we only partner with businesses in which we believe, and we believe in Goudarzi & Young and their second-to-none staff.
That’s because they have proven themselves time and time again, achieving verdicts of $730 million, $260 million and more; the three largest settlements involving 18-wheelers in the history of the United States; and in Brent Goudarzi’s service with the National Trial Lawyer’s Association – he was named the National Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2023, and served as president of the NTLA in 2024.
