THE “FOREVER RED” EXPERIENCE | Stunning photos from the Hi-Steppers’ Spring Show

They do it every year, so it shouldn’t come as any surprise.

But the Kilgore High School Hi-Steppers once again blew the roof off the venue at their annual Spring Show last Saturday.

This year’s show, entitled “Forever Red,” was the first as director for Laycen Peralez, but far from her first: she hit the stage as a Hi-Stepper herself just about a decade ago.

And it’s not just about the Hi-Steppers. They always include so many other performers, from the mini-campers, the Kilgore High School and Kilgore Middle School cheerleaders, the KMS Star Steppers, the Hi-Stepper managers, the co-ed dance classes, of course the annual dances with moms and dads, and this year, a guest performer, Polish exchange student Hania Chmielewska.

True to the theme of the show, each of the numbers performed by the Hi-Steppers themselves had the word “red” in the number, i.e., “glamouRED,” “incREDible,” adoRED,” et al.

The show was held at the Belcher Center on the campus of LeTourneau University in Longview.

This year’s Hi-Stepper officers have been senior captain Abby Weaver, senior lieutenant Journee Moore, senior lieutenant Andrea Torres, junior lieutenant Bailey Alford, junior lieutenant Kyleigh Lewis, and junior lieutenant Gracelyn Nash.

Four-year senior Hi-Steppers are the three senior officers, as well as Sunnie Jo Bailey, Kylee Moore and Sydney Starkey (have been Hi-Steppers for all four years of their high school career).

Jackelyn Ortega is a one-year senior Hi-Stepper.

Three-year junior Hi-Steppers are Brooklyn Audas, Katie Cooper, Anna Latham, and Makinlee Latham.

Yoselin Maldonado and Sheba Meyer are two-year junior Hi-Steppers.

Sophomores that have been Hi-Steppers for two years are Madison Bailey, Kayla Black, Adalyn Chitwood, Kerstin Dean, Langston Donath, Hannah Holmgren, Kenzie Miller and Kyra Spyhalski.

Kortlan Howard is a one-year Hi-Stepper, a sophomore.

And the freshmen Hi-Steppers this year are Maddie Adams, Aubrey Bailey, Carly Chitwood, Aubrie Montgomery, Jaylah Robinson, Rhegan Starkey, and Maddie Tucker.

Assisting Peralez is Christie Carter.
