SPRING SIGNING DAY AT KHS | Brooks, Matlock, Parrish, Smires all announce decisions
Four seniors at Kilgore High School are moving on to the collegiate level, and announced their decisions to friends, family and faculty at KHS on Friday morning. From left: Bryonne Brooks (Mountain View College), Auniyeuh Matlock (Hesston College), Josh Parrish (Howard Payne University) and Hallie Smires (Baker (Kan.) University). More photos below, in alphabetical order. (Photo by MITCH LUCAS – ETBLITZ.COM)
Bryonne Brooks (center), with family, signed to continue her education aimed at a career in Nursing and volleyball career on the college level at Mountain View College in Dallas. The Lions, led by head coach Jana Bonds, compete in the NJCAA’s Region V Conference. They went 12-19 overall this past season (in the fall), and won three of their last four games in the regular season before losing in the Division III South District Quarterfinals. Brooks is used to being busy in athletics, as are all of Kilgore’s spring senior signees: she competed in basketball and volleyball at KHS and is also a cheerleader. Congratulations, BB, good luck at Mountain View! (Photo by MITCH LUCAS – ETBLITZ.COM)
Auniyeuh Matlock (seated, center, second from left) had a big grin, joined by family and friends in front of a good portion of Kilgore High School for her signing day. Matlock has decided on Hesston College (in Hesston, Kan.) to pursue her degree and will also play basketball there. Hesston College’s Larks compete in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. The Larks, who are coached by Vinncent DeLisio, finished their season with an 11-17 record, and a loss in the first round of the KJCCC’s D2 tournament to Kansas City Kansas Community College. Matlock played basketball, volleyball, and track for the Lady Bulldogs, and is also a cheerleader. Congratulations, Auniyeuh, and best of luck at Hesston (Photo by MITCH LUCAS – ETBLITZ.COM)
Josh Parrish (seated, center) was joined by his family for this photo, just after signing to continue his education and football career at Howard Payne University. Parrish stood out at tight end here at KHS for coach Clint Fuller’s Bulldogs, and helped the Ragin’ Red to the fourth round of the UIL Class 4A playoffs the last two seasons. Howard Payne, located in Brownwood, football competes in the American Southwest Conference. The Yellow Jackets went 6-4 in the 2023 season, running into a pair of tough teams at the end and dropping their last two games to Sul Ross (47-42) and Mary Hardin-Baylor (35-10). Congratulations, Josh; wishing you the best at Howard Payne. (Photo by MITCH LUCAS – ETBLITZ.COM)
Hallie Smires (center) just finished her most recent sport at Kilgore (golf), and also played basketball and volleyball. Joined by family, Hallie signed recently with Baker University in Baldwin City, Kan., after recently actually signing with Baker a few weeks ago. But she wanted a ceremony with her family and friends at KHS, as well, and we’re glad she did. Baker University’s Wildcats compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, and are coached by Torrie Murillo. Congratulations, Hallie! (Photo by MITCH LUCAS – ETBLITZ.COM)
