SPECIAL TOURNAMENT AT TEMPEST FRIDAY | Tempest to host tournament to benefit flag

The flag of the United States represents the best country in the world, right?

Right.

And that flag will be honored this coming week at Tempest Golf Club, who will host a benefit tournament called the Fight for the Flag on Friday.

The proceeds earned from the tournament will go to helping preserve the gigantic U.S. flag, which stands off the ninth green on the course, donated by Energy Weldfab and its founder, Mike Clements, back in 2020. Specifically, there is the Tempest Flag Foundation, a 501C3 dedicated to the preservation of the flag.

The flag is referenced on the course’s website in its history.

“The Thurston’s uncle, Mike Clements purchased and had installed the giant American Flag and flagpole on Veterans Day 2020, which stands overlooking the 9th green. It’s a marker to the decades of many lives spent here, those who gave life for freedom, and enduring East Texas golf love tapestry woven through the storied golfing facility in the scenic pines.”

Sign-up for the tournament – a four-man scramble – will begin at 7:30 a.m. Friday morning, with opening ceremonies and a shotgun start to follow at 9. Lunch will be served and there will be a putting contest, and for those participants who’d like to play the course after the tournament that morning, there will be more golf.

The cost of registration is $500 per team.
