SOCCER SEASON BEGINS TODAY FOR MANY | Kilgore girls host tourney; boys in PT event; Sabine boys also hosting tourney
After weeks of scrimmages and the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, high school soccer’s regular season is finally here, and many of this area’s programs are playing in tournaments.
The Kilgore Bulldogs are playing at a tournament in Pine Tree (see the schedule below), and Kilgore’s girls are hosting their own again this year, here at R.E. St. John Memorial Stadium and at a new field on campus.
Admission is $5 per ticket or $12 for a tournament pass for all three days of the event – Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It’s also noted that there’s a full concession stand.
In the tournament this year in addition to Kilgore are Sabine, Henderson, Nacogdoches, Lufkin, Chapel Hill, Jacksonville, Mount Pleasant, Spring Hill, Hallsville, Carthage, North Lamar, Hardin-Jefferson and Texas High.
Kilgore plays Lufkin at 9 a.m. Thursday morning at R.E. St. John, and that’s the Lady Bulldogs’ only game of the day. Sabine plays North Lamar at the new high school field at 11:40 a.m.; that’s Sabine’s only game of the day, as well.
Kilgore doesn’t play at all on Friday, but plays twice on Saturday: at 10:25 a.m. against Texas High, at R.E. St. John, then again at R.E. St. John at 3:45 p.m. against Mount Pleasant.
On Friday, Sabine plays Hardin-Jefferson at the high school field at 12:55, and then on Saturday, the Lady Cardinals play just once, at the high school field at 11:40 a.m. against Nac.
The event also has a junior varsity bracket.
See the entire bracket in a photo with this story below.
The Bulldogs, now coached by former Bulldog Hector Peralez, play four games in the next three days at Pirate Stadium in Longview, and at nearby Lear Park.
Kilgore’s boys JV plays Palestine at Lear Park at 8 a.m. Thursday, then Pine Tree at 1 p.m. Thursday, also at Lear.
The varsity Bulldogs play Paris at 5 p.m. at Pirate Stadium.
Kilgore’s JV is back in action at 8 a.m. Friday against Athens at Lear, and then The Bulldogs have two games on Friday, both at Pirate Stadium: at 9 a.m. against Athens, then at 1 p.m. against Lindale.
On Saturday, there looks to be no JV game scheduled, but Kilgore’s varsity plays Terrell at 1 p.m. at Pirate Stadium.
Looking ahead briefly to next week, Kilgore’s boys visit Lufkin on Tuesday, a 5 p.m. JV start with varsity to follow, and then play in the Palestine Tournament next weekend.
The Lady Bulldogs, again coached by Todd BonDurant, take the early portion of the week off, and then play next weekend in a tournament in Forney.
Sabine’s boys are hosting their own tournament this weekend at James Bamberg Stadium, which also includes area schools Gladewater and Tatum.
Sabine plays at Waskom at 8:15 a.m. Thursday. Tatum plays at 10:45 a.m. Thursday against Kemp, and Gladewater plays Tenaha Friday at noon.
Tatum’s girls are playing in Palestine’s girls tournament. They play New Summerfield Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
