SABINE! | Cards sweep White Oak
Sabine’s Hudson McNatt (above), the reigning, defending Whataburger/ETBlitz.com boys Player of the Week, had 17 points in a 63-36 win at home over White Oak on Tuesday night. The Cardinals are 6-0 in District 15-3A. Sabine’s Lady Cardinals also beat White Oak, 46-29, and they’re 7-1 in district play. Both teams host Gladewater on Friday. New Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh borrowed a phrase from his longtime coaching father, and it goes like this: “Who’s got it better than us?,” to which his players answer, “Nobody!”
Maybe not, but Sabine High School basketball has it pretty darn good.
Both Sabine teams won on Tuesday night, taking down White Oak in dual Sabine home games, and they have only one loss between ‘em in District 15-3A.
Coach Sara Cantrell’s Lady Cardinals beat the Lady ‘Necks, 46-29 – Sabine’s girls are 17-10 overall, but are 7-1 in district play, winners of four straight after their only loss: at Gladewater back on Jan. 17, 65-42.
And there’s a rematch of that game this Friday at SHS, after the subvarsity games, around 6 p.m.
Against White Oak, Kylee Longhofer and Ella Roberts each had eight points. Caitlyn Stewart and Maddy Pierce each had seven. Loren Colquitt had six; Kaitlynn Sanchez and Landry Griffith, four each; and Autumn Rhodes, two.
Sabine’s Cardinals, coached by Colby Carr, beat White Oak, 63-36, jumping out to a 20-12 lead after the first quarter and never trailing.
Hudson McNatt, the most recent Whataburger / ETBlitz.com boys Player of the Week for scoring 49 points in two games last week, led Sabine again, this time with 17 points. Colt Sparks had 14, and Jaydan McPherson had 10.
The Cardinals, who have won seven straight games, are 6-0 in district play and no one has really played them close.
They’ll also be home Friday against Gladewater, and varsity boys will play following the varsity girls.
