It’s the second powerlifting report of the day on Friday here on ETBlitz.com, and this one is also a big one.

Earlier in the day, we reported on three Overton High School lifters going to the Texas High School Powerlifting Association state meet in Abilene, after qualifying at the regional meet in Arp (HOW ‘BOUT THEM MUSTANGS! | Three to state lifting meet (etblitz.com)).

Now, we have this one: Sabine High’s boys powerlifting team went and won the Division III Regional Championship, also at Arp High School on Friday!

And the members of the team will still move on to Abilene as state qualifiers, coached by Joe Maines – who was recognized as first-place coach – and his assistant, Josiah Bone.

Let’s run the list of Sabine’s top-five finishers on Friday.

Sabine’s Anthony Aguiliar finished fourth in his weight class (114 points), with a squat of 220, a bench press of 165, a deadlift of 285, and a total of 670 pounds.

Shiloh O’Brien competed in the 123-pound weight class and finished fifth: a 375-pound squat, a 190-pound bench, a 365-pound deadlift, and a 930-pound total.

Joe Ray was a big gun again for the Cardinals, taking home a second-place finish in the 165-pound weight class. Ray had a squat of 550 pounds, a bench of 340, a deadlift of 520, and a total of 1,410 pounds.

Tristan Peterson took third in the 198-pound weight class, going for 560 pounds in the squat, 375 in the bench, and 465 in the deadlift for a 1,400-pound total. Joseph Royce was fifth in that class: 500 in the squat, 345 in the bench, and 500 in the deadlift, a total of 1,345.

Sam Black competed for the Cardinals at the 220-pound class, taking third in it with a 610 squat, a 315 bench, and a 525 deadlift (1,450).

Steven Calico and Dawson Brooks were both in the 242-pound class. Calico went for 590 in the squat, 405 in the bench and 515 in the deadlift for a 1,510-pound total, and Brooks finished with 1,500-even: 590 in the squat, 440 in the bench, and a 470-pound deadlift.

And Kelton Lee competed for the Cards at the 275-pound class, squatting 525 pounds, benching 365 and a 420-pound deadlift for 1,310 pounds, total.

We’ll have more on this event, including more qualifiers from other schools, if applicable, from the ETBlitz.com area, as we learn more. Congratulations to these qualifiers.
