SABINE AT 7-ON-7! | Cardinals play twice on Friday, against eventual quarterfinalist, semifinalist
Sabine played four games in the Texas State 7-on-7 Tournament on Thursday and Friday at Veterans Park at College Station: three of them were pool games, serving the purpose to seed the real tournament. Storms came in late Thursday afternoon, forcing everyone to stop play until Friday morning. Sabine had been 0-2 at that point, playing in Division II and in one of, if not the, most difficult pool in the division, pool A. The Cardinals resumed play Friday with their final pool game, losing to two-time defending champion Hitchcock, 27-6.
Sabine’s first game of the actual tournament came only about 45 minutes later against Mineral Wells, an eventual 21-0 loss. The games on Friday were shortened a bit due to Thursday’s weather, in an effort to help the day move along faster.
Mineral Wells would reach the quarterfinals of the tournament, and Hitchcock would reach the semifinals.
