ROAD UNKIND | Rangers lose at Lee, Lady Rangers at Angelina
Neither of Kilgore College’s basketball road trips worked out very well for the good guys on Wednesday night.
KC’s Lady Rangers dropped their conference opener, 83-56, to Angelina College in Lufkin, and the Rangers lost on the road at Lee, 83-79.
Both Kilgore College teams will be home on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Rangers will host Coastal Bend at 2 p.m., and the Rangers will host Angelina, ironically, at 4.
Numbers for coach Robert Byrd’s Rangers weren’t in yet following the loss at Lee, but that drops KC to 12-4 overall, and 2-3 in Region XIV Conference play. It also ended, unfortunately, a three-game winning streak dating back to before the Christmas holiday break. Lee remained unbeaten in conference play (5-0) with the win.
The Rangers’ next opponent, Angelina, defeated Bossier Parish, 58-55, on Wednesday night, and Angelina is 11-5 overall and 2-3 in conference coming into Masters Gynnasium on Saturday.
Angelina College 83, KC 56 (women): Shooting woes were heavy for coach Stephanie Williams’ KC team on the road at Lufkin, as they hit just 20-of-64 shots they took, about 31 percent; went 6-of-29 from three-point range, and hit only 10 of the 16 free throws they shot.
Only one player – Nyla Inmon – scored in double figures for the Rangers. She had a double-double: 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Jarahle Daniels had nine points, a rebound and an assist; Jazmyn Sostand had eight points, seven rebounds, and two assists; Jordan Wright also had eight points, two assists and a rebound; Perina Lieme had seven points, two rebounds and an assist; Nakiyah Allen scored six points, and grabbed four rebounds, had an assist and two steals; and BryKayla Hampton had three points, a rebound and an assist.
Three Angelina players hit double figures in scoring: Amyria Walker, who had 18; Marie Kenembeni, who had 15; and Janay Quinn, with 13.
The loss drops KC to 7-8 overall, and of course, they’re 0-1 in conference. Coastal Bend, their opponent here on Saturday, is 4-9 overall and hasn’t yet played their conference opener. They’ll do so Saturday at KC.
